The funny thing is that even as an overweight 41 year old he's going to have the best boxing skills of any MMA fighter out there which gives him some chance as long as it doesn't go to the ground.

i wouldn't read too much into the "multi-fight" part of the contract. in UFC contracts, they can cut you after any loss. now thats a rare occurrence, but it has happened (usually after someone gets embarrassed in a fight)

Exclusive: James Toney signs multi-fight deal with UFC

Posted by Cory Brady on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 3:58 pm· 3 Comments

After months of speculation following James Toney making his intentions to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship public, one of the greatest boxers of our time is now set to embark on his career in mixed martial arts.

FiveOuncesofPain.com has been informed through sources close to the situation that James Toney has recently been signed to a multi-fight contract with the UFC.

Toney was seen during UFC 108 while attempting to track down UFC President Dana White in hopes of negotiating terms for the boxer to enter the UFC, although more recent comments from Toney made it appear as though the deal, if any, was dead in the water before today.

“Lights Out” is a former professional middleweight, super-middleweight, and cruiserweight boxing champion, while currently being listed as the active NABO and IBA heavyweight title holder.

Toney’s decorated professional boxing record currently stands at 72 victories and only 6 defeats, with 3 draws and 2 no-contests. James has stopped 44 of his 72 victims via knockout for an impressive 61% knockout ratio.

There is no news currently available as to when Toney will be making his debut for the promotion. Stay tuned to 5 Oz. as we keep you up to date on this developing story.

This reminds me of Ray Mercer. He did good but he is a bigger puncher then Toney.

James Toney isn't a champion, he's a former champion who's now a washed up, overweight 41 year old and he still may end up sparking some of those clowns.

Toney is a shot fighter man, he's 41 and way past it.

He still has some decent skills but that's about it. smh

he can probably beat some type of MMA guy that stands up, like a kimbo or someone like that. Obviously you're not going to see toney learning how to pull of a quick arm bar, lmao.

this is a joke signing by UFC, it's for publicity and that's it. It's kind of a freakshow and pretty disgraceful of dana white
