Jeff mayweather: "skill for skill, floyd is miles away from shane"

"Shane is at the twilight of his career now and just went through a bad divorce, so of course he's ready to fight Floyd and who wouldn't be after a situation like that. Floyd never avoided Shane...Shane, at best, has a puncher's chance against my nephew and that's basically it. I mean, skill for skill, Floyd is miles away from Shane when you talk about the whole package. Shane is physically stronger, but is he really? We don't know what he's going to be on because he gotta take a test this time. We don't know if we're going to see the real Shane until maybe this fight. This could be the first time he looks old without," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather as he shared his thoughts on the upcoming welterweight clash between Shane Mosley and his nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Check out what else he had to say about Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto and much more.

PC: Many people thought we would never see your nephew fight Shane Mosley. It's a done deal that they will be getting it on May 1st. How do you see that fight going?

JM: I think that...first of all, everyone is acting like Floyd was avoiding Shane. No! Floyd was calling Shane out when Shane was the pound-for-pound best fighter. It's a situation now where of course Shane is at the twilight of his career now and just went through a bad divorce, so of course he's ready to fight Floyd and who wouldn't be after a situation like that. Floyd never avoided Shane. Everyone likes to think that Floyd avoided Shane and they are making it like Shane is a beast because he beat Margarito. Margarito is an average Joe fighter; he's nothing. He is a guy that punches in volume, but he gets hit with every single punch. Take away the fact that he was cheating against Cotto and he lost that fight. He got beat by Paul Williams, so what has he really done other than beat Kermit Cintron? That's it. They turned him into a beast and called him the most feared man in boxing. Why? Because ya'll say he is? The only thing he did was beat Kermit Cintron, who was never nobody in terms of stature. He was never anybody anyway; he just so happened won a world title. So what! I applaud him for that, but other than that, there is nothing special about Kermit Cintron and he is Margarito's claim to fame. You gotta take away what he did to Cotto because he was cheating.

And let's not forget, Cotto beat Shane and Shane was supposedly still somebody. Then he fights Mayorga, who couldn't hit me with a right hand, and he's hitting Shane with right hands all day. He was in life and death with Mayorga. He knocked him out and it looked good at the end, but the whole fight stunk. Don't get me wrong, Shane, at best, has a puncher's chance against my nephew and that's basically it. I mean, skill for skill, Floyd is miles away from Shane when you talk about the whole package. Shane is physically stronger, but is he really? We don't know what he's going to be on because he gotta take a test this time. We don't know if we're going to see the real Shane until maybe this fight. This could be the first time he looks old without any stuff in his system. Everybody jump on that wagon. People say he should have fought Pacquiao over Mosley. Why? Because Mosley beat Margarito, a walking punching bag? Not only is he a walking punching bag, it turns out that the guy is cheating. He didn't beat Cotto. At the end of the day, he didn't beat Cotto. It goes down as a win in the books, but they should take that fight away from him. If you turn around and suspend a guy, then why wouldn't you take the loss off of Cotto's record? It's obvious he's been cheating.

PC: What do you think Cotto has left, because at the end of the day, he seems to have gotten a raw deal?

JM: Cotto is ruined. He may beat a guy like Yuri Foreman because Foreman is no threat to him. Yuri Foreman can't break an egg. The guy has 3 knockouts. He's not going to hurt Cotto. He's not that great of a defensive fighter to totally get away from Cotto. The Cotto situation reminds me of the Meldrick Taylor situation, but Cotto is not that far gone. The same thing that happened to Cotto is the same thing that happened to Meldrick Taylor after the Chavez fight. Meldrick Taylor was actually a better fighter on a higher echelon. He could beat an ordinary guy that just so happened to have the championship. He went on to beat Aaron Davis, even after he lost to Chavez and was a shot fighter. That's the same thing that's happened to Cotto. He can go up and beat a Yuri Foreman, but he will never be able to beat some of the guys that he was once able to, like Shane Mosley, Clottey, my nephew or a Pacquiao. Those types of guys, the bigger name guys in the division, or even a Berto, those guys would destroy him. He's not the same anymore. It's sad that, at the end of the day, Cotto has 2 losses and both of them are probably to cheaters(PacMan has a new person to sue). He has the worst luck in boxing and that's sad. Here is a guy who, if he wouldn't have fought guys that cheated, he would still have his swag. He would probably be one of the top guys in boxing right now.

I don't blame Shane for avoiding Floyd

floyd was calling mosley out after mosley fought 3 fights in one year, sounds like normal floyd bull****, trying to make himself look a certain way but in reality his real agenda was just to get credit for calling someone out and knowing it would be put on hold. that's called bull**** in my book, head games and to the average fight fan that dose'nt understand the game and trash talk would think mosley was ducking a floyd fight. i'm kinda disapointed in jeff though, normally he's right on point with his statements, this time he's off by a mile.

Jeff talks a lot of sense. I enjoyed that read enitrely.

I agree Cotto would be different without Margarito, and that Marg isn't a great fighter. Cotto will struggle VS top guys now, but only ones with speed and movement.

I agree that Mosely right now is at the end of his career, but still poses a big threat. Whather he has the legs to catch up with his ahdn speed, I am not sure, but in boxing, inches count so it's important.

Floyd would have had issues with a prime Mosely though. Not just a punchers chance.

This is just not accurate by Jeff. Mosley is one of the most accurate punchers in the game, fastest, most powerful.Mosley>>>>>>anybody Floyd's fought. Mosley has more reach and height, so you know Mosley is gonna be first all ngiht. And if Mosley's first all night, he'll win.

I dont know what Mosley fights you've been watching. Fastest yes, Powerful yes, Accurate hell no. Mosely is one of the most inaccurate sloppy punchers out there. Mosely gets off balance so easily and trips and falls all over the ring. The reason Mosely throws so many punches is because he is so inaccurate but one out six has to land.

Jeff makes some good points, some bad ones. The main thing is Floyd is a lot more skillful than Mosley is at this point, and Margarito is a guy made to order for Shane. It's pretty likely Floyd will win this fight going away. He's too hard to hit. If Shane could still throw combinations it'd be different.
