NEWSFLASH: Trinidad still the biggest draw in boxing.

    NEWS FLASH
    510,000 buys tor Winky-Tito!
HBO Sports reported today that 510,000 pay-per-view buys and $25.5 million in revenue was generated from last Saturday’s middleweight showdown between Winky Wright and Felix Trinidad at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Don King Productions in association with Gary Shaw Productions. The 510,000 buys -- tops for a pay-per-view boxing event this year --included 280,000 buys from cable homes and 230,000 from satellite homes and represents an impressive box office performance for the combination of the widely popular Felix Trinidad and the first pay-per-view show in which the accomplished Winky Wright was a headline performer. "Boxing fans tuned in to see a classic matchup of styles," said Mark Taffet, Senior Vice President, HBO Sports. "Winky Wright’s performance clearly establishes him as a force in the middleweight division and the pay-per-view results exceeded our expectations." The Wright-Trinidad middleweight fight will be replayed this Saturday night, May 21 at 9:45pm ET/8:45 p.m. CT/6:45 p.m. PT on HBO. It will precede the live telecast of the heavyweight showdown in Chicago as Lamon Brewster meets Andrew Golota in a special live edition of HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

Wow, I was expecting something in the range of 300-400k.

What did Tito-Mayorga do? And what did Morales-Pacman do?

You know.....despite the draw Trinidad brings, he was dissed pretty bad by his fellow countrymen. I really have no respect for some of our Puerto Rican posters because of comments the made post-Winky fight. They have absolutely no class:

One of them said Tito was an embarrasment to their country. Another said he was embarrased to be a fan of his. Simply because he could not beat the better fighter in Winky. so what.

That is what irritates me, people are trash talking Tito like he lost to some bum or push over. There was a reason why Winky was ducked and dodged for years, and it isnt because he is a push over or cant fight at the top championship level.

I think Trinidad lost because he lost his passion for the sport and was/is going downhill. How much Barrera vs. Morales 3 made? DLH vs Hopkins?

One poster named Loak....said tito was a "sellout ***" who does not deserve to fight anymore. To me...that is as low as you possibly can go as a fan. He claimed Tito fixed the fight, when right beforehand...he was talking about how invincible Trinidad was. Rightfully so, there might have been reason to feel he was invincible....but only to the novice fightfan. That kind of attitude towards a fighter he claims was his favorite...is degrading to this forum, himself, and Trinidad's efforts as a championship caliber fighter.

That completely discredits every performance Tito put on in the past...like his demolishing of Reid, Vargas, Carr, and others. Now it seems they are back to square 1 except on the other side of the boat shouting insults on a megaphone.

"They" does not mean Puerto Rican. Because there are classy Puerto Rican fight fans on this forum such as Borikua.

I have a feeling the same thing's going to happen when Gatti loses to Mayweather. Seems like this happens when a fighter has a lot of fanboy groupies. The groupies pout and run home as soon as their man loses.

Trinidad just couldnt find any openings and didnt really bother to make any either. Trinidad lost to the better fighter and that is it plain and simple. Their shouldnt be any arguments about it.

Gatti vs Mayweather is such a mismatch, All of the critics know what is going to happen and Mayweather will dismantle and put him to shame. Gatti stands no real chance at winning this fight. People are a sucker who fall for it. Gatti isnt no champion and cant fight at a championship level either. Common sense knows Mayweather will take Gatti to school and put on a boxing lesson punishing him.

Iwatch-Hopkins vs de la hoya broke 1 million buys.
Morales vs Barrera III pulled in 325,000

I wish more people on this board would face up to these facts...I mean, nearly everyone does, but the Gatti groupies still come to make trouble now and then. The only real question is whether this fight will be shorter or longer than that other ridiculous HBO PPV this year, the Barrera - Fana fight.
