Bring back the Contender - Boycott NBC

You may have heard that the Contender is not on NBC's fall schedule and unlikely to get picked up for next spring. Here are 2 petitions to sign to bring back the contender.

The original petitions site, with millions of members and thousands of successful petitions. Create a free petition and tap into powerful tools to have real impact. Non-partisan and simply the best online activism tools.

I say go one step further and just BOYCOTT NBC. Look at the crap NBC has on their TV schedule:

    Tommy Lee goes to college
    I wanna be Hilton
    Average Joe Returns

they have room for this crap, but not the contender?????

Stallone was on Larry King and said the Contender got double the ratings when it was on after the Apprentice... he doesn't know why they got a Sunday nite time slot against 2 established strong shows (cold case/Extreme home makover) that get over 20 million viewers.....

and the finale for the Contender??? on tuesday nite against the finale for american idol!!!! NBS never gave the contender a chance, screw them.

This show was DOA as soon as it first aired. They never had any intention of bringing it back. The problem is that the demographics are too ****ed up for it to survive on network TV...no matter how hard they try, it's going to appeal to a male-dominated audience, and the big sponsors know that it's ladies that still do most of the shopping.

The show was the idea of Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks, who is a big boxing fan and wanted to try to revive it (and control it in the process, of course). Him and Burnett could get the show on the air cause they're both bigname entertainment guys...but that's the only reason it ever got on TV in the first place.

They should bring a show like this to cable, where specific show raings and demographics do not matter nearly as much. It would make a nice fit on Showtime, maybe.

Contender barely broke 10.0 in ratings and suffered with ratings of around 4-6 throughout the whole season. Anything below 10 is garbage for NBC, nothing new here.

A noble cause to try to revive...but I'm sorry....those online petitions aren't even looked at by those who actually have the power to keep it alive. It's just a text messaging board with a chance for them to show you their advertizing banners.

I'm glad the 'Contender' is going off the air. Sly Stallone has this crazy perception of 'what boxing should be'and he tries to sell in this ****** show and all of his Rocky movies. Have you guys tried to watch the bouts on this show; their edited to look and feel like a hollywood boxing movie! Its complete garbage, boxing in real life is not like watching a Rocky movie.

they did that to make it more appealing to the general public... they dont wanna see the art of boxing to work but juss the big shots and ko's... anyways... yea i think the show should go to another network like showtime or hbo where i hope they will show the whole fight this time...

It would suffer on HBO/SHO...I know I would feel ripped off.

Boxing doesnt need no reality spoof, what the networks need to do is air fights.

Cintron and Bojado brought in stellar ratings for their brief boxing shows on Saturday afternoons. I can only imagine what they would do if it brought to primetime.

Tuesday would be a prime spot for boxing.

                    Very well said.

Reality TV is killing television, 5-10 years from now when all we have is reality tv what is going to happen to syndication? It will kill it.

Nobody will be interested in watching reruns of reality shows and that is all we will have. On top of that we will be watchin 1990 episodes of seinfeld until we get off of that train. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but reality tv is killing television in the long run.
