Comments Thread For: Zaveck Back on 4/9; Sartison-Mendy on 5/29; Macklin-Gevor

IBF welterweight champ Jan Zaveck will defend the title April 9 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with SES promoting against an opponent to be announced. Zaveck won the title in December in South Africa with an upset win over Isaac Hlatswayo. Zaveck, 28-1-0-1 and for good reasons nicknamed "Mr Simpatico", is a superstar at home - and he´s the first ever Slovenian world champ.

Yes, that's one to look forward to.

Mendy vs. the underrated Sartisan and Lebedev vs. the underrated Herelius will be interesting too.

Gevor should be WBA titleholder, Sturm got a gift decision in their fight.
no, no and no. **** off. close fights = robberies?
I also scored it 115:113 Sturm. Sturm handled his crazy workrate great, counterpunching him well, while landing clean jabs in his face!!! He also land such a clean punch, which swang Gevors head up and down( not to compare with the KO of Abraham!)

Re: Zaveck. Really hate the TBA title defenses that are all too common today. Promoters announce a month before a fight that their champion, who has been in training, is going to fight TBA, in the champions home country, of course. Usually means somebody who the WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO sticks in the rankings as a patsy for the champion. Would have more respect if they at least gave the TBA patsy two or three months advance notice so they can prepare for their probably futile title shot

I'd actually like to see this guy fight. He may be the type of opponent Ricky Hatton tries to fight on his comeback. In fact what if this fight happened April 9th, it would be fun to see which network scrambled to televise it.

Yes, when it's "TBA" you know it's not going to be a top level opponent.

That being said, Zaveck is entitled to TBA defense, after winning the world title in the home country of the champion.
