Watching the Cotto fight, one thing is noticeable: Not only is Clottey stronger and more durable than Cotto, but his handspeed is equal or even better than Cotto's.
I believe the reason he's lost and why he doesn't get many knockouts is because of his handcuff defense. It's bsically Winky in a 147 body with a tad more pressure. That style doesn't really work at 160-175 and has no place in any weight division below 154. The fighters are simply too fast and too active, and before the pressure gets to any top-10 fighter, the fight's over.
The most detrimental aspect of this fighting style/strategy is that Clottey doesn't know how to make a fighter walk into his shots. All of Manny Pacquiao's opponents who gave him trouble knew how to make Manny move into his punches.... however of course, Manny has vastly improved sinced getting edged by Morales.
If Clottey only knew how to move in and out, like Ike Quartey, and better ring generalship, we'd be looking at a truly elite fighter.
