Why do Heavyweights get paid the most?

Why is it that Heavyweights are usually paid more in boxing and fighters in the lower weight classes work their asses off more and get paid so little? It seems you have to be Mayweather or Pacquiao popular just to get a few millions in the bank these days.

Historically, the heavyweights have tended to draw in more fans and more money so of course they've gotten paid more.

I don't think this is the case nowadays, especially in the states. After Lewis-Tyson, the richest fights here have been around the 147-160 range.

yea, the heavyweight division is pretty boring nowadays, i doubt people will spend alot of money on them, but they still get paid pretty good. I guess its because they have to take the harder punches

Yea, I agree with the other responses. Wladimir won't be getting 40 million for a fight anytime soon.

If they aren't stars they don't command star type paydays. And who cares anyway?
