Wright didn't do more harm than good by winning, that's silly. He'd look a hell of a lot worse off had he lost that fight. I don't care who you are, it is always better to have the win than the loss.
Say he'd have lost. He'd maybe have gotten fights against better opposition, but for worse money. Then, had he lost to f'n Trinidad, that'd probably mean he'd lose again, further hurting his marketability.
Wright is better off with the win, trust me. He might have to force the mandatory thing to get titles, then turn around and defend those titles. Its a long road that way, but it may be his only option.
Really besides Trinidad, who is Winky going to fight anyhow, if you really want to get real. Hopkins isn't big money. He's possibly the biggest money fight for Wright, but that doesn't make Hopkins big money. If Hopkins isn't fighting DLH or Trinidad, he isn't going to draw those huge crowds that he imagines he can draw.
Need proof? Look at all the disrespect Hopkins gets for being a "boring" fighter. Its hard to market that.
Vargas may be the biggest potential draw of the three. Probably is. Vargas vs. Hopkins is a much easier sell than Wright vs. Vargas or Wright vs. Hopkins.
But Wright vs. Hopkins can sell some. It'd do better now than it would, say Wright had lost, and they have Wright vs. Hopkins 2 years from now or something. Right now, Wright is the superstar stopper. Back to back, he's virtually ended the careers of Mosley and Trinidad. Hopkins ended DLH. That's how they'd have to market Hopkins vs. Wright, which is the best way to market it.
Executioner vs. The Career Killer. Hopkins took out both Trinidad and DLH. Only man to stop either, let alone both. Wright sabotaged Mosley's career by beating him twice, then stopped Trinidad's comeback by stopping him, shutting Tito down completely. 12 rounds, Tito couldn't land 60 punches. Tito couldn't land even 5 punches a round on Wright. Both Hopkins and Wright were seen as stepping stones. Now they've thwarted that image. What happens when two the warriors meet face to face?
That's how you market that ****.
