VITALI KLITSCHKO RENEGES ON JAMES TONEY FIGHT
    By Ben Thompson | February 22, 2010

According to multi-division champion James "Lights Out" Toney, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko reneged on an agreement to face the future Hall-of-Fame. A heated James Toney contacted FightHype.com to inform us that his promoter, Dan Goossen, and Klitschko's adviser, Shelly Finkel, had agreed nearly three weeks ago to a potential May 29 showdown if a bout between Klitschko and former champion Nikolai Valuev could not be finalized. When it became clear that Valuev would not come to terms with the money being offered, Toney naturally assumed that he'd finally get the opportunity to step inside the ring with Klitschko. Evidently, Team Klitschko has had a change of heart.

"Klitschko made a partial agreement with Dan Goosen and Shelly Finkel's ho ass said if the fight with Valuev fell through, then we were going to be in line for the fight. Now they trying to renege and fight Alexander Povetkin on some bull****," Toney stated. "They are cowards man. Here I am, the IBA heavyweight champion, one of the champions out there, and the only belt they ain't got, they scared to come get. They don't want to fight me because they know that I'm the only one that can whoop their ass; him and his sister."

not much now but considering the list of potential fights for Vitali at this point he really doesn't have many options. In addition James Toney brings a little more interest than your typical current HW contender. Toney still has fans and people will tune in. At the very least, the press conferences and hype leading up to the fight will be epic.

            Good post.

'Shelly Finkel's ho ass' HAHAHA. Gotta love James.

Apart from the fact that I'm a big JT fan, I'd be interested to see this bout, as a boxing fan. Because, I mean, who the hell else if VK gonna fight? Haye's tied up and in any case will target Wlad before Vitali.... and I think James would get into shape for this fight. Even at this stage of his career, an in-shape Toney (he was 217 last time out; a good weight for him) has handspeed and ringcraft over a lot of these big, lumbering HWs...VK is very difficult to beat and it would be a huge physical obstacle to overcome by Toney... he'd most likely get picked apart from outside, hit with that long right hand, he might struggle to get close and be effective against Klitschko. But I'd pay to see it above Vitali fighting another guy like Kevin Johnson. I mean if he can fight Chris Arreola, who's pretty out-of-shape, why not James? At least James is a skilful, resourceful, granite-chinned 4-weight champion and all time great. As I said, I think James would get into pretty good shape for this

More interesting than any other fight that he could take.

I'm not interested in Povetkin at the moment.

Toney really gets up my nose and pisses me off. He's interesting.

You can't be indifferent to James Toney.

This. When you get gift decisions against Oquendo you don't fight the likes of Vitali Klitschko. Vitali should fight a young undefeated HW like Boystov or Solis, or someone who has actually done something at HW in the last few years like Thompson. Even Dimitrenko would be better than Toney at this point.

LMAO, Toney is funny. The IBA belt means nothing. It's as good as the NABO one.

A win over Toney makes fun for Vitali, a name to his resume and more entertainment to the fans, more exposeure to fat yanks.
