Greatest Wars Of The Last 15 Years????

This was a few days old but didn't see too many comments about the author's little chart. First of all, boxing fans suffer from a disease I'll call "Latest Excitement Syndrome". This occurs when a fan sees a good fight such as Corrales/Castillo and immediately proclaim it to be the "best frickin fight in 15 years"!! LOL, that's good stuff. This shows what a state boxing is in that every year or two a good fight comes along. In the past 6-9 months it just happens that 3 good fights came along in Morrales/Paquaio, Morrales/Barrera 3, and the previous mentioned Corrales/Castillo. Unfortunately, EVERY one of these fights was considered by so called experts as the greatest they have seen in the last century!! While Corrales/Castillo WAS a very entertaining fight, it was by NO MEANS the best in the last 15 years. Hell, Barrera/Morrales 1 and 3 were better. Oh, I forgot one has to put little stipulations on the deciding factors such as "had to be knocked down twice, had to be on the verge of defeat/death whatever, had to have a mouthpiece come out twice...it's all about which fights were the BEST, plain and simple. ****, Bowe/Holyfield 1 and 3 were better than Corrales/Castillo. Gatti/Ward 1 and 3 were better. I'll give the author Gonzales/Carbajal, Gonzalez/Sorjaturong, and Moorer/Cooper but fights like Trinidad/Vargas and Corrales/Cassamayor were NOT wars. The first was a onesided ass whipping which Vargas happened to score a flash knockdown. Trinidad was NEVER hurt or ever on trouble. And Cassamayor/Corrales 1 was also NOT a war. There were a couple decent knockdowns but most of the fight saw Corrales chase Cassamayor around the ring. And the ending ****** and was basically a bad stoppage! So, relax after the next good fight you see, cuz no matter how hard your little heart is beating during the action, it probably isn't the greatest fight you ever saw....

Benn/McClellan was a great fight. BUT, not the ultimate war people make it out to be. The reason is that McClellan was injured far earlier than most people realize. I have this fight and have viewed it several times and by the 6th round he is already wincing in pain every time he takes a shot to the head! For a man whom people **** on so much with their judgmental views in relation to his dog fighting, he showed incredible courage by even continuing to fight given his condition midway thru the bout.

I dunno man... I've got the fight and watched it loads of times, and to me - It was only in the last two rounds that he went a bit strange and started blinking loads.

He didn't seem too bad before that.

But it wasn't the fact that it ended in tragedy that makes me think it was a war... It's the fight itself that makes me think that way. Nigel Benn was just ferocious!... He just kept lundging forward with BIG left and right hooks! And McCellen was successful too.

I think what made it a WAR, was that neither man had that great a defence!
