  • If Mayweather beats Gatti, will move up too welterweight avoiding the best at 140lbs?

If Mayweaher beats Gatti - Which is very likely to happen, what will be Mayweather's next move?

Mayweather is very vocal about his plans to move to 147lbs and take on a De La Hoya or Mosely in a superfight. But he'll be leaving unfinished business behind right?

Gatti maybe the WBC light-welterweight champion, but there are about 5 or 6 fighters in that division that I would rate above him, (and expect to easily beat him).

So if Mayweather beats Gatti and then moves to 147lbs, would you view him as a fight ducker? For not challenging Tszyu/Cotto/Harris/Hatton/Witter - (all of which I think would beat Gatti).

Don't get me wrong, this is not an anti-Mayweather thread... I've got a lot of respect for the skills that boy has! But I fear he's gonna pull a RJJ and not face the best in this division, and that may come back to haunt him later?

Floyd had spoke often of taking on Tszyu and Harris. Those are the two fighters that come up the most as far as I've heard.

The biggest advantage he would have against Tszyu is age, which is going to catch up on Kostya sooner or later. That would take a significant amount of risk out of this encounter and if he beat Tszyu if would add significantly to his prestige.

Thing is Oscar's getting old as well and he might jump up right away to face him before it's too late. I still predict a fight with Kostya though.

The big and best fights for Mayweather will be at 147.

Eventually Mayweather will run into Vivian Harris at 140 and that is something that he is avoiding like the black plague.

If he moves to 147 and fights the best that is bigger than anything that could happen at 140. He started his career at 130 and would have moved up just about 20 pounds to take on the bigger guys.

Mayweather is small and I think he will max out at 147 and the bigger names are there and that is where he wants to be at. Mayweather has chased DLH his whole career.

One fight I wish that would have happened at 135 would be a prime shane vs Mayweather.

Damn that would have been great.

Doesn't stop him from talking a lot of trash about Harris, though. You think he is really trying that hard to avoid him?

Interviewer-"Hey Mayweather how is a possible matchup with you and Vicious Vivian in the future."

Floyd-"Who is Vivian, I never even heard of this guy...Who is he? I dont know no Vicious Vivian."

Interviewer-"He is a recognized champion and belt holder at your division and you mean you have never heard anything about him?"

Floyd-"Nope never heard of him, who is he?"

That is how Floyd responds when he hears Vivians name...Sounds like he is ducking to me.

          How about Cotto vs Floyd?

Floyd doesn't need Harris or Cotto...he is looking for the big fights vs Kostya, Mosley, Judah, DLH...

To be honest, I don't think Harris is that great... I saw his 1st fight with Urkal and I reckon he lost that fight. But AMAZINGLY IN GERMANY AGAINST A GERMAN... The judges gave the nod to Harris.

It was a close fight, but I thought Urkal pipped it by 1 or 2 rounds. - (harris won the re-match, but not by that much).

So I'm not sure that Harris is all that... I reckon Mayweather wouldn't have too many problems with Harris.

haha yeah, I heard him mention once about how the guy was in a rap video and he doesn't even know who he is. I didn't interpret it as ducking, but I see what you mean. If he pretends that the guy doesn't exist then he doesn't have to face him.

I used to think that Cotto might give Floyd some trouble, with his hand speed and his decent power. But Corley exposed him a bit, and unless he gets himself a title soon I would say that Floyd would probably just forget about him.

If he really wants to face DLH it seems like so much depends on how much longer Oscar plans on fighting. That's probably going to be unpredictable as well because one more bad loss and Oscar might retire. If Zab beats him up prett good than I can't really see him going on.

Vivian is one of those fighters that great fighters bring the best out of him, I believe. He has tremendous skills though.

I would expect Cotto to get outclassed by Floyd, but I would like to see Floyd deal with his power.

Harris may be the darkhorse of the division though...he may be the guy who finally gets his Tarveresque break in the future vs a Mayweather, Judah, Kostya
