Holyfield only fought like 4 fights at Light heavyweight and it was becoming a strain on him to make to 175. Then he went to cruiserweight and cleaned out the division and became Undisputed cruiserweight Champion he had nowhere else to go but heavyweight. Who can say that was a regretable descsion when he went on to become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, and have a legendary career.

Jones started at middleweight
Holyfield started at Lt Heavyweight
Jones fought most of his career at middleweight
then supermiddle weight
then for a while at Lt Heavyweight
then he had one fight at heavyweight
then he went back down to light heavyweight
Spinks fought almost his entire career at light heavyweight and cruiserweight and he some success at heavyweight against Holmes. But nothing compared to Holyfield.
Holyfield fought most of career at heavyweight.
Jones had most of his fights at middlewight
Spinks fought most of his fights at Lt Heavyweight
Jones did not clean out the division he jumped around from either. He never undisputed champion in any division.
Holyfield was undisputed at cruiser and heavy
He just started his career at Lt Heavy because that is the weight class he was in the amateurs. And all fighters bulk up alot after they turn pro.
Comparing Jones and Holyfield's carrers are ridiculous. Almost all successfull cruiserweights go up to heavyweight. Probably also most guys that fight in the amateures at 175 pounds fight for most of their career in the pro's as heavies.
