yes he is. people are gonna say Pernell's D was better but the truth is Floyd's D is a perfected version of Pernell's D.

i prefer the style of willie pep or whitaker but he is probably the best, we realy dont know because of his opposition.

          pernell had a better d.

floyd's d looks good because of who he fights.

Floyd and Sweet Pea could be neck and neck...a lot of people pick Sweet Pea as far as the last 30 yrs are concerned.

pea's "DRAW" against chavez is better than any win floyd has ever had. period.

Mayweather has the greatest defense ever. He didnt rely purely on reflexes like Pernell. Floyds D is textbook.

You can be thisclose to him and still miss wildly.

Its between Pernell and Floyd. Floyd edges him.

Pernell was able to integrate his defense slightly more fluidly with his offense in my opinion and although I haven't seen much footage of Locche's prime years his defense was pretty immense. The footage I've seen his offense lacked bite, but I read that it was a lot more effective when he was younger.

Pep of course was a magician and master at predicting his opponent's next move, and I'd assert that his defense was better than Floyd's in relation to their respective time periods but not in a direct comparison.

Guys like Jack Johnson, Jersey Joe Walcott, Wilfred Benitez, James Toney and Miguel Canto all deserve mentions as well (probably loads that I've forgotten too).

Mayweather Jnr is up there with these guys in my opinion and is definitely one of the greatest - but probably not the greatest (who is Sweet Pea in my opinion).
