Yup. He wasn't doing too well against Mercado I in spots.

However, he was in Ecuador, dropped twice and still got a draw, so you know he did really well in other spots. Rumor is that Mercado was ready to go at the end of the fight.

He throttled Mercado in the rematch, and ruined his career.

He was knocked down but not sure how hurt he was, hard to say.

Honestly, I really do think that night had something to do with the high altitude since hokins never ever looked like that in a fight in his entire career, especially considering how easily hopkins destroyed him in the immediate rematch

Marcado packed a good punch though

he was only hurt once against mercado, the first knockdown was just a flash. to hopkins' credit he rallied back and boxed mercados ears of down the stretch, then knocked him out in the rematch.

mercado wasnt the best allround fighter but he could punch like a mule.

so how many guys can truly say that after 22 years of professional boxing, that they've never been hurt or never been beat up?

****, hopkins hasn't even been CUT in his entire career.

Pretty remarkable if you think about it.

Good question, I have never seen him hurt, although I have only seen like 6 of his fights.
