To win, sometimes you have to bite down and fight them.Floyd has not learned that lesson yet.I'm reading all of these threads that think that Shane doesn't stand a chance.I don't understand it.You can't just be a fan of the sport to make those type of predictions. You have to be a student of the sport. These people are on here saying what Shane won't be able to do against Floyd, but have they considered what Floyd won't be able to do against Shane? The only true arsenal that Floyd has shown in his last 3 or 4 fights has been a check hook and a lead right hand.He throws a few jabs but not a lot.And also an occasional hook to the body.Never do you see quick flurries or fluid combinations.Never do you see a high work rate. Will this type of potshotting offense beat an agressive offense that you know Shane will unleash.Yes, Shane will miss a lot of power shots, but he will also connect enough to carry the fight.A great defense does not win fights against a high quality legit welterweight.Remember this. Wright and Forrest were both the bigger men with longer reach than Shane. He got outboxed because he could not get close enough to unleash his combos.Plus, both of those guys could have been able to knock him out. That just isn't the case fighting a smaller Floyd. No matter how slick or smart Floyd is,Shane will get to him.If Floyd wins, it won't be because he outboxes Shane,it will be because he out fought Shane. I am one who honestly can't see that happening.
If the other fighter forces him to. Mayweather doesn't need to learn anything. Ali fought that way because he didn't have any choice when his refl;exes got slower and his legs got old. Ali wasn't doing it to prove point or because he enjoyed it. You don't stick your head out and let the opponent hit you to prove how tough you are. That's ******. I never understood that logic. And unless you have a selective memory for Mayweather fights, Floyd has "bitten down" and fought plenty of times in his career when he had to. Jesus Chavez and Castillo 1 come to mind. He's not going to fight every fighter the same way. But the bottom line is you don't give the opponent his best chance of winning by giving him chances to hit you unnecessarily. That's fighting ******. I don't understand this logic that has been thrown around here. It doesn't make sense and it shows a true lack of knowledge or jut plain bias when it comes to certain fighters. And that includes Larry Merchant. If Mayweather puts on a clinic and outboxes Mosley so what? That's what he's supposed to do. He's not supposed to fight the way Mosley wants him to fight. Criticizing that shows ignorance as far as I'm concerned. And when was the last time Winky Wright knocked anybody out, let alone Shane Mosley?

Great post. This is the strongest, biggest, longest, and most reachful opponent Floyd's ever faced. I expect Mosley ot land the shots which count. Mosley will carry rounds on 3 or 3 poewer shots each round. Mayweather will NOT have an easy fight.

WTF ! This post alone proves you know nothing about boxing! If everything Merchant knows about boxing is divided a thousand times, you wouldn't even know as much as 1/1000th of what Merchant knows. Shut up so people won't know you're an idiot.

I really hope ur right. And that its a competitive fight.

But Floyd has handled nearly every opponent he has faced with ease. I dont know if Shane will really chase down Floyd and pressure him. Shane doesnt have a great defence and i just see Floyd landing occasional clean shots, and moving away, Shane hitting air, Floyd being slippery, awkward...the usual.

I dont think u can blame anyone for thinking it will be another easy night for Floyd based on the fact Shane has been outboxed by lesser boxers, and Floyd has handled big strong punchers before.
