On Margarito's side, if Margarito wants to redeem himself in the public's eyes (if he gets his license again)...well there's Pacquiao, Mosley, Cotto, Mayweather, Williams. If he beats any one of them, what will that make him? Will he be praised or villified once more? If Pacquiao can take Cotto's punches, what more for Margarito?

He'll subject himself to scrutiny especially the hand wraps, but will he ever be the same fighter? I don't know. If Top Rank or GBP is in the business of giving second chances, well this may be fight Margarito needs...for now.

The only way for Margarito to redeem himself is to fight Mosley and Williams and beat at least one of them.

A few weeks ago, Top Rank's Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com's Ryan ******** that Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito was a possible plan for later in the year. Margarito was scheduled to appear on the Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey undercard on March 13 in Texas. A few issues with regaining his boxing license has shifted his next ring appearance to May 8 in Mexico. i REALLY can't get behind that one at all. i still think margarito should just be gone, he doesn't deserve anymore fights.


and we all know what pac would do to him. mosley broke margarito- arum just wants something to add the pacman highlight reel, and i can understand that. but margarito sucks.

i'd watch margarito fight mayorga, that would be really entertaining but he doesn't deserve any top level fights.

pac vs. mosley or mayweather is all that needs to be happening later in the year. bob arum holding the sport down as always

When Floyd comes out of retirement and fights a blown up LW at WW and came in over weight and paid his way to be able to fight over weight against a struggling fat LW and putting on a sparring session and failed to be able to put JMM out in a VERY lack Luster fight ....When they put him #2 in the world and in the WW ratings when he didnt even fight a WW....I have to scratch my head.....I suppose you object to that!

Almost every boxing expert in the world agrees with The Ring on that score. You may scratch your head as much as you like, but your opinion is not shared by a single boxing expert that I am aware of - certainly not by the vast majority of them. So to put that down to bias on their part is ridiculous, unless you think GPB somehow owns every boxing expert on the planet.

Mayweather was the last lineal Welterweight champion, and it was obvious in that fight that he hasn't declined during his "retirement". That's why he gets his rating. And technically, it was a Welterweight fight. If you don't think he should be ranked, then nor should Pac. The Cotto fight was also at catchweight.

Boxrec also ranks Mayweather #2 at Welterweight - I suppose you think Boxrec is also owned by GBP?

As for the fight being lacklustre, Floyd dominated JMM in a way he had never come close to being dominated before, and put on a defensive masterclass; and most boxing experts thought that was much more due to his skills than to his weight advantage; whereas Pac won an extremely close fight against JMM very controversially only a year and a half ago.
