Why does Andre Berto want to fight light welterweights?

During recent days, Andre Berto's team tried to get him a fight with Paulie Malignaggi, but Paulie turned it down.

Then he tried to get a fight with light welterweight Zab Judah, Judah turned it down...

Andre Berto has already fought light welterweight Juan Urango and Steve Forbes, who's fought mostly between super featherweight and light welterweight.

Why doesn't Andre Berto seek opponents in welterweight? Or, just for once, fight a light middleweight instead of a carefully chosen smaller guy?

Well his only options IMO are to rematch Collazo, or fight Quintana...

If he beats Collazo again, so what...

    Quintana fight makes sense...

Apparently HBO isn't interested in Berto-Quintana...

LOL who care if he beats Quintana. Let's be honest, Berto didn't want no part of Shane Mosley. That is all.

After the cherry picking being made for Floyd in recent years and now seeing it trying to be done for Andre Berto, I think it's Al Haymon.

Still that is no reason to continuously fight opponents who regularly compete in the division below the one you are a current belt holder in.

Berto is maybe the most unproven of any title belt holders in the world at this stage.

Why can't he take on a hot prospect to gain some credibility? It is not as if he is really even known among casual fans yet or is a big draw so I don't see how he could make any claim about someone else not being big enough yet to fight him.

Dude lost hella family members, and probably some friends in that Earth Quake. What the hell do you know

There's a time and place for everything, and you're judging a guy not competing in a sport, because he had family that died.

I asked Dan Rafael on ESPN last year how Andre Berto could be the WBC champion of the world and still fight "opponents"...I forget who Berto was supposed to fight, but it was some journeyman...and he started cracking up. It's nothing new. Berto wanted no part of Shane Mosley, and he's lucky he dropped out of that fight.

I'm not saying anything about that. He didn't want any part of Shane Mosley to begin with. I knew it all the way through. I feel bad for him and Haiti but its the truth.

He has wanted to fight Shane since the Rodriguez (when he won the WBC strap) fight. He said he wants to fight the top guys and I believe him but losing family members and going through that earth quake, I don't blame him for trying to postpone the fight.
