Mike "The Bodysnatcher" McCallum - Sorely Underrated.

He really was somethin' special. doesnt get enough recognition for his services to boxing, nicknamed "The Bodysnatcher" because of his devastating and precise body punching. They say what was unique about McCallum's body punching though was that unlike most body punchers, amazingly, he never took head punches in return. He had a record of 49-5-1 (36). He was never stopped, was a 3 weight world champion and his level of opposition was the highest on offer, knocked out the fearsome Julian Jackson who was undefeated and on a 27KO streak, in 2 rounds, for the light-middle weight title. faced Sambu Kalambay for the WBA middleweight title and lost but beat Kalambay in a rematch 3 years later. Defeated Herol Graham for the middleweight title, he also fought and beat Don Curry,Michael Watson and Steve Collins between 1987-1990. He fought James Toney in 1991 for the IBF middleweight title and fought to a disputed draw, he lost the rematch with Toney a year later by majority decision (people say he should have won both bouts). McCallum moved to lightheavy-weight and took the WBC belt from Jeff Harding. He made one title defense before losing to Fabrice Tiozzo but McCallum was 39 at the time. Faced the undefeated Roy Jones Jr in 1996 and lost but was still good enough to take Jones the distance dispite being 40 years old. Had one more fight, he faced James Toney for the third time moving up in weight once more to fight for the vacant WBU Cruiserweight championship, as was expected, he was defeated by UD but could hold his head high. Great fighter and exemplary professional.

One of the most underrated fighter in the last 30 years or so. The man was the complete package at times and having the fortune to see him fight in the UK is something i would cherish.

Just watched the Curry fight yesterday. That was a great fight until the ko. Very underrated fighter. To bad he never got a chance against the fantastic 4. By the way I think Mosley vs Mayweather could end up like that fight

Agreed. McCallum was a great fighter who ducked no-one and always fought at the top-level. I'm struggling to think of a fighter who is more underrated. Would have loved to see him fight Nigel Benn.

He was underrated when he was fighting I can certainly understand how he would be underrated 25 years after the fact.
