OO the KD in the Barrera fight was not a KD. But it happens often as refs confuse slips with KD's its not proof of bias or anything.

It makes me laugh when people make it out that pac gets raw deals. I mentioned the Hussein fight and how about dalawa decisions in the JMM fights? Dont worry about pac his promoter is Bob Arum who has Malaking bayag and runs the sport. So i doubt he will get a raw deal.

Instead i think Roach should develop a plan to fight Clottey using more angles and going to the body as the straight left up the middle will be neautrilized by Clottey's armadillo protection up high. If Pac uses speed and boxing he will win but if he fights CLottey the same way as Cotto he will be in for a tough fight.

Did you watch the entire Pac-Nedal fight or just the KD ? If you just watched the KD. pls watch the whole fight and post again.

I have the entire fight. I know u will say that Hussein use rough tatics and elbows, but that dosen't minimize the fact that Pac was dropped by a stiff jab and padilla had a slow count. When Hussein came for the kill than pac held him and wouldnt let go- SO Hussein had no choice to elbow him to get him off since Padilla wouldnt do his job, of course than Padilla than took a point away and gave pac more time to recover.

Also the fight ended with a Premature stoppage, Hussein was undefeated and deserved to quit on his feet instead of a ref doing it for him.

Do you know who Jeff Fenech was? He was only the greatest fighter born in Austrailia(Famechon was born in france and kostya born in russia). Fenech was going to be the only fighter in history to win his 4th title while being undefeated when he was robbed with a draw against Azumah Nelson; that record eventually was accomplish by DLH when he beat Whitaker. Fenech has a great reptuation in the sport and he knew that politics were involved.

My only point is that you can't have it both ways. Hate on Joe Cortez for being Boricua and not wanting him on the Cotto fight and than say that it is cool for a pinoy ref in the phils to be involved in a fight with a pinoy fighter- the appearence dosent look correct. Padilla did the thrilla in manila but those were two african american fighters, he did SRL vs Duran but that was a black vs a latino. But to have him ref a fight with his fellow countrymen in his own nation just looks improper. Imagine if pac had fought Cotto in San Juan , Puerto Rico with Joe Cortez as the ref? What would pac fans say?

I doubt the referee will be a big issue in the fight. Jerry Jones owns the Cowboys and is a Bob Arum nuthugger and Arum has too much power to have a ref deliberately steal a fight from him. Do you think Top Rank would allow their biggest commodity who produces malaki pera get robbed?

I think Pac should focus more on the way he fights Clottey instead. Because he won't land that lead left between the gloves of Clottey due to how he hold his gloves high without exposing the middle like Cotto and Morales. Pac needs to use speed and go after the body and give angles. When clottey puts his gloves lower to protect the body than that will open up the ULO for him. Also Clottey uses the right hook to the body well and pac leaves that open with those lead lefts. Clottey did that to Zab Judah another southpaw. I still personally think Pac will win but if he fights the wrong fight i can see it alot closer than people think. Also Clottey is naturally bigger than Cotto; he has fought at 154 and will be allowed to fight at 147 and no catchweight.

Did anybody see that replay on I think ESPN Classic last week where Cole waved off the fight in what the crowd thought was too soon (I forget who was fighting lol), but the whole room started chanting "Ref you suck, Ref you suck, Ref you suck"? It was funny when the camera went on to Cole, he was just standing in the corner listening and the expression on his face was priceless.
I'm not as concerned over the ref for the Pac fight as I am for the May-Mosely fight. A good ref is crucial for that fight.

It's shocking that a) he is allowed to ref big fights and b) he is allowed to ref this because his dad is in charge of the state commission.

steve smoger and kenny bayless should be mandatory refs for big fights.

I lost mad respect for Bayless after PACQUIAO-COTTO........he was on Cotto's case all night with lowblow warnings, even though they were borderline, and pac had a high cup.........and didnt say **** when pac landed 2 pretty hard lowblows and wasnt even warning him a bit......he also stopped the fight at a weird time....i mean if he was gonna stop it, he shouldve done it between rounds....not give cotto a chance to see the 12th and then stop it when pac throws a flurry....

I agree at most. The real important thing is that being a ref is not an easy task, you are caught between two fighters who punch each other out..looking after their well being. Laurence Cole is not the sharpest of all referees, but who hasn't had a bad call in a certain fight? they only have 2 eyes focused in one angle with no slow motion replays.

But yes... it's crucial that a ref is very competent in his field of work, not too loose and not to tight on being a referee... not just in big fights but in all fights.
