BoxingOaktown, Are you based in the States? In Europe and the UK Maidana was not that well known as Ortiz is not a European fighter. But Khan claims he wants to be well known in the States.

In which case if as you say Maidana was well known in the States Khan's excuse that he was not as big a name is a sham. I thought as much. The fight could have been sold as a giant killer theme pointing out that Maidana did a number on the US next best thing Ortiz will he do it on the British hope. That would have been an easy sell and given Khan a running start for his US plans. It would have been a more exciting debut than Pauli,if he actually fights him.
Khan has got away with pulling a lot of strokes here in the UK but somehow I feel the Americans don't take to that garbage as well and won't suffer it.

its bull**** that this guy thinks he is bigger then maidana, or some kind of superstar because he spars with pacquiao and trains with roach. and i was just becoming a fan of khan but after the stuff that went down this week. nah
maidana took step aside money didn't he?

Yes, Maidana sold himself short. We don't know the details but it looks that Golden Boy leveraged their connections at HBO to come up with some kind of deal where Maidana gets TV slots in return for letting Khan keep the title. I understand that Maidana has to stay away from Khan for 3 fights or a year.

Nobody knows Maidana in the US. Just like nobody knows Khan in the US. However people do know who Mallignaggi is. It's a fight that makes perfect sense. Mallignaggi is a slick, pure boxer, who doesn't hit very hard. Khan is making his debut on the biggest stage in world boxing...HBO. Whoever doesn't agree that Khan vs Mallignaggi is a good matchup are just blinded by their hate for a young, British, ******.

Maidana is hugely overrated, because he made a guy who's heart isn't really in boxing quit. Ortiz owned Maidana for most of that fight, and if he fought with a bit of common sense and composure, he would have stopped Maidana early. Maidana only has a punchers chance against Khan. If Khan had a chin, Maidana would literrally have little to no chance of beating Khan. However, Khan doesn't have a chin, and that fact is what makes Maidana a viable opponent. I want to see the fight happen just as much as the next man, but I'm objective enough to realise there are other fights out the for Khan. Fights that make more sense at this stage in Khan's career.

Khan shouldn't be avoiding his mandatories I agree, but a long career in boxing is more important that fulfilling the wishes of a community of boxing fans who only want the fight to happen to see him get vicously knocked out so they can cheer, gloat, and laugh at his downfall. I would probably be more critical of Khan if his detractors were a little more reasonable and not filled with vile blind hate for the man. I don't think there is a current boxer more hated than Khan. Even Margarito gets more respect which is laughable.
