like I said before. power isnt the only thing in boxing. you say Amir is ducking a real threat in Maidana but you fail to see how one-dimensional Maidana really is. And on top of that Paulies resume is 10 times better then Maidana's resume.Comment

1. Cotto was an undefeated LWW champion, in his last fight at the weight, and Malignaggi was also an undefeated challenger. Cotto was pretty much a megastar by then, and the fight was a correct one to make.
2. Hatton was also a megastar at 140, and was on the comeback trail after his sole loss to Mayweather. Malignaggi hadn't lost since his brave outing with Cotto, and again it was a good fight to make (on paper).
3. Khan is not a worldwide megastar at 140. He's somewhat of a big name, and a champion, but not enough that he can start commanding who he fights or claiming that guys are below him. At this stage, he is not in any position to be sidestepping someone like Maidana who has earned his shot at the title, and is considered the most dangerous challenger at 140.
4. Rightfully so, Malignaggi shouldn't feel the need to be anyone's "opponent" or stepping stone. Obviously a payday against Khan would be substantial, but being a former champ himself he should be fighting Bradley or someone who's made a name at 140.
5. At 140, Khan hasn't made a name for **** (Drilzane, Kotelnik, Salita...?), and still won't make one by beating Malignaggi. The latter simply isn't dangerous enough. By beating Maidana, however, then he can be considered a legit force at 140.Comment

Apparantly Malinaggi is on Khans level. When HBO is told to let Khan have 3 gimmi fights, the dude is being protected. When Malinaggi/Pac-man was proposed Roach said"no way we don't WANT to HURT paulie".I just find it funny ,Maidaina KNOCKED out Ortiz on HBO,but to Khan he isn't well known like HIS LAST MANDATORY the "world renown"Dimitri Salita.I never remember him fighting on HBO or Khan for that matter fighting on hbo.Khan and Roach KNOW that Amir has a melon for a chin and if Khans opponent can punch its always very very risky.I don't have to remind anyone how few punchers khan faced, the ONE TIME he faced a puncher,he was wobbled by the first jab and knocked out as viscous as any knockout in boxing in under a minute from the opening bell. When 135 started heating up Khan was gone, khan found one of the most pedestrian title holders in Kotelnik at 140 and now Khan refuses to defend against his mandatory. It didn't stop him when his mandatory was LIGHT PUNCHING Salita. The funniest part is whenever Roach is asked what he sees in Khans future Roach always mentions the same nemes Morales,Nate Campell,Marquez-how about fighters under 36 who KHAN doesn't have a 6 inch reach on.Is that asking too much for the next SELF PROCLAIMED FUTURE LB FOR LB #1.Comment

Simple question for those who dismiss Maidana - Khan readily fought a soft touch in Salita for his first mandatory, so why not a hard touch in Maidana (who blasted Ortiz) for his first outing in the States? Malignaggi is not a hard touch.
Here's hoping the WBA make Khan fight Maidana (like they originally said they would) or strip him of the title - that way he won't have as much bargaining power for his next doormat... I mean, opponent. :laff2:Comment
