Showtime Announcers Clash on Mayweather-Pacquiao

Not even professional broadcasters can resist the urge of taking sides in the Pacquiao-Mayweather debate. This past Saturday during Showtime’s broadcast of Valero- DeMarco, long-time boxing analyst Al Bernstein and his blow by blow partner Gus Johnson argued about who was the better fighter, Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao. Now the rift was nothing major, but both Johnson and Bernstein, tried to get the last word in on the matter with Johnson affectively ending the debate when he laughed off Bernstein’s final remark. Here is the transcript of the verbal sparring that occurred with forty seconds to go in the eighth round when Al Bernstein began to compare Edwin Valero to Manny Pacquiao.
Al Bernstein: He’s certainly not as good as Manny Pacquiao right now, no one is. Maybe Floyd Mayweather.
Gus Johnson: Maybe Floyd Mayweather?
Al Bernstein: Potentially that’s the big debate.
Gus Johnson: Let’s hope Manny Pacquiao is as good as Floyd Mayweather!
Al Bernstein: Ok there you go.
Gus Johnson: Floyd has never lost!
Al Bernstein: I have great respect for Floyd, he is a terrific fighter, he hasn’t been as active as Pacquiao.
Gus Johnson ends the debate when he laughs off Bernstein’s final remark.
