  • Comments Thread For: Ali Funeka Hunts For New Foe, Rolando Reyes Withdraws

Maybe the third time won’t be a charm after all for Ali Funeka.

Efforts to have the South African contend for a third title shot in as many fights have proven futile, with the latest unfortunate event coming earlier this week when Rolando Reyes withdrew from their IBF-mandated vacant lightweight title fight.

Guzman should have to fight Funeka in South Africa since Funeka was robbed the first time. And the funny thing is, I hardly ever hear of a decision going to a foreign fighter on that territory. Ha ha ha.

I was thinking the same thing, but there's no way in hell Golden Boy agrees to it. Katsidis already has a March 27 HBO date (albeit w/o an opponent at the moment).

the other option would be for Funeka to come here to step in for Guerrero, but I'm fairly certain he'll never again fight on a Golden Boy show after what he went through in November

If he fights Katsidis it could be a unification since JMM will likely have signed to fight Khan at that point which would force him to vacate his WBO strap.

Making it that much sweeter if the fight happened.

                Unlikely to happen though.

Funeka shouldn't have to beat Guzman again. That first decision was bull****.
