It is what it is. The first quarter schedules were set long ago, which means we’re forced to live with the fact that boxing at the highest level will not be taking place for the rest of the month.

Sometime prior to last year’s close, it was decided in business meetings at both HBO and Showtime that it would be wise to avoid going up against – gasp – the 2010 Winter Olympics, which is set to begin this Friday and will run through month’s end.

I agree stone I think they have a lot of potential matches in the near future and the can fill the void and give a little bit of spot light to ESPN2 and the smaller neetworks and shine light on the up and coming fighters....Lefty

How is it "end thread?" We say boxing has nothing to worry about... yet we've been left with next to nothing since mid-December. One major show each on HBO and Showtime during that stretch doesn't cut it, nor does running scared from the Winter Olympics, whose audience couldn't greater contrast from boxing's core base.

Sad to say but boxing cannot compete with the olympics. As much as I hate that they are not showing any cards for the next few weeks, it is understandable.

I'm not saying boxing is dead, but to compete for viewership against giant networks showcasing something that doesn't come around very often isn't wise. It is merely scraping by without the hurdles of some special event.

And to compare NBA-Allstars, Tv Shows & movies to a boxing card isn't fair. Boxing viewership isn't where it was 10-20 years ago,.

I do agree though, two boxing cards competing for viewership is a shame.

          Thank god for DVR.

I dont really care if more PPV's are made part of subscriptions because i have to pay for them regardless. Even Boxing After Dark is $25 (or around $12US) for me and i dont get Showtime at all so you americans and europeans are lucky!. I also agree that boxing shouldnt have avoided the olympics because there is no ice boxing is there?? Boxing fans will watch boxing over olympics any day mate and anyone who is on the fence is not gonna pay for boxing when the olympics are free.
