For years Junior Witter has been sidelined, largely due to having the same manager as the more crowd-pleasing Hatton for a lot of his career, for underperforming against Zab Judah in 2000 (having never gone the distance before), but mainly because he's "high risk, low reward". A Hatton-Witter fight was never made because although Limeys crie for it more than anything else, the money wasn't there from the States.
How times have changed. Witter is now in contention with a three-fight deal from Golden Boy Promotions. I also have no doubt he'll continue to be in contention as I truly believe the guy is a world-class operator.
Then there's Hatton. Too untested, too used to having things his own way. I've put a bet on him against Tzysu, because a bet's a bet, but I don't particularly expect him to win. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him lose, even if he's got the chin and the balls to go the distance.
Yet... he COULD win. I'm not saying he will, but he COULD. He's the same as anyone, two hands, two fists, a head and a heart. Did KOing Mitchell really prove Zoo had got rid of the rust? Is Hatton as good as they say he is? Or will it just be his "night"?
So... let's say that Hatton beats Tyszu (not altogether likely, but certainly not impossible) and Witter becomes his mandatory. How much interest will you Yankee Doodles have in seeing two Limeys going at it on PPV Showtime?
