Comments Thread for: EDWIN VALERO I believe the hype!!!

Okay gentlemen to be honest up until Saturday night I was not so sure about Valero. I had seen some tape of him on you tube and from what I had heard about him on the show I thought he was a face first brawler. I watched him Saturday night and I was VERY impressed. I thought he displayed a good jab and his in and out movement was excellent. He was shooting the left hand over the top of DeMarco's jab and countering him and getting out of range quickly. He was able to frustrate DeMarco and I thought he did not come close to putting him down but he did stun or hurt him at least two times during the fight. The fact he had that terrible gash in the side of his head and the cut on his right eye lid was also bleeding into his eye was crazy. he just kept on fighting after he made sure the reff knew the cut on the right side of his head was from an elbow. I am really crazy about seeing him in a future match up against anothe top 135lb fighter....Lefty

Yeah his effectivness with range, ability to slip counter shots, his handspeed & savage warrior spirit/perseverance to simply not give a *** about the cuts, blood or anything else except destroying the man in front of him all impressed me.

Valero look like a refine version of Mayorga but a poor man version of 122-126 Pacquiao LOL. He is very brutal and fight with alot of heart though. Valero vs Katsidis or J Diaz would be nice though.

I would not mind seeing Valero vs Juan Diaz. It would be a good judge to let us know if Valero could move up to 140lb and challenge Bradley or someone up there. I think Valero would knock out Khan....Lefty

I was very much a Valero doubter before Saturday, and he completely won me over. I thought it was an amazing performance and his reflexes and 'timing and inches', as Mayweather would put it, were masterful.

Diaz doesn't have the power to hurt Valero though, guys like Katsidis or Maidana have a punchers chance. I don't see diaz surviving 12 rounds and winning on workrate.

i watched alotta that old dougie fischer sparring vid and i always knew he was better then alotta what i saw from his pro matches. but he was even better on sat then i expecteced. great mental/physical toughness, high workrate decent speed countering range footwork ... he still needs work but overall i was impressed. really looking forward to seeing him fight again... waaaarrr caveman!!
