    Federal Boxing Commission

"The measure, approved on a voice vote, would set up a national computerized medical registry of boxing personnel and would provide uniform ranking criteria and contractual guidelines.

The bill, which must still be considered by the House, is sponsored by Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a boxing fan who has long tried to clean up the sport by better protecting the health of boxers and ensuring fair financial treatment for them.

The three-person U.S. Boxing Commission would be appointed by the president and function within the Commerce Department.

It would be awesome if this actually works out. Hopefully, Don King won't corrupt the process by giving a bunch of money to politicians. He has a knack for corrupting situations to his benefit.

It would be horrilbe if they did this. The federal government is dipping into everything these days. They wont even let state governments have the power to officiate boxing matches anymore. Having one gigantic commission with all the power, believe me would be horrible. When you have 50 commissions if 1 is corrupt then you have 49 other commmissions to fight under. If you have just have 1 gigantic commision with tentacles in everything belive me it will be inherently corrupt and nobody will able to escape it. ESPN (ABC) put up alot propaganda pushing for this. LIke they televised a bunch of fights where they knew the descison would be bull****. So they could forward their agenda for this. It would be the worst thing ever if they have a federal boxing commision. State governments are alot closer to the people and there is better oversight than with the Federal government, leaving less opportunities for corruption, especially in the small states.

They say the federal commission would help boxers but its bull**** there is no reason why the Nevada State Athletic commision cant create a pension fund for boxers or whatever. And pension fund and all that **** just means a tax.

Its alot easier for 1 commision to become corrupt than 50. Especially a commision that has so much power.

3 people with all the power in the boxing world. What a horrible Idea, everything the US government does they say it is in the name of "protecting people," the line gets old after a while. They are more corrupt than anybody to be in a position to accuse others of corruption.

          For the LAST TIME!!! ......
          (1) Boxing is a GLOBAL sport! Does McCain fancy himself "ruler of the planet"??
          (2) The U.S. government has proven time after time that they CAN NOT effectively administer ANYTHING! Put them in charge and "Everlast" mysteriously wins the biding war and is allowed to furnish all boxing gloves........at 30,000 dollars per pair.
**** Cheney's big business cronies all would manage the "old fighter's fund" which would mysteriously go bankrupt.
Don King would resign rather than associate with "those crooks"!

Its a much better idea than the 50 states. All you need is 1 corrupt state commission(Nevada is well-known for its corruption) and corrupt people can put fights there. Someone banned by 49 states can still box at an Indian reservation. If the states are so in touch with the people why have they done such a horrible job with boxing so far. Boxing is corrupt right now and everyone knows it. This possible new commission has a much better chance of breaking the corruption than the state commissions that have already had decades to do it and haven't even tried.

The corruption in the government is mostly because we allow politicians and their parties to accept so much corporate money. If the people pushed to keep people/corporations from making enormous campaign contributions the way our government works would start to change. The way it is right now a rich campaign contributors vote counts a lot more than a poor or middle class person's vote

IF this happens the sport of boxing will be destroyed.

If this happens you are going to be watcing alot more fights happening in Germany at odd hours of the day to find any decent less corrupt boxing.

The 3 men wouldn't have absolute power and every few years there would probably be new people on the commission. Also the president doesn't appoint the people to the commission.
