Unbeaten IBF#1/WBO#1 and WBA#2 ranked jr welterweight Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton has come under increasing criticism during his build-up to face IBF champion Kostya Tszyu about his weight. In early TV appearances on Showtime and Sky Sports to promote the fight the 26 year old WBU champion appeared to have gained signifcant weight since his last fight in December 2004. However today after eight weeks of training he tipped just 144 pounds on the scales at the Pheonix Gym. Thus with over three weeks to go he is just four pounds off his target championship weight. He laughed off comments about his weight, "This is my physical make-up and I do gain weight in between fights but my build up to this key fight is that I will be in the best shape of my life. With just 3 weeks to go and only four pounds to lose I am well on course." The IBF title fight takes place at the MEN Arena in Manchester on June 4th.
Hatton down to 144 lbs with 8 weeks left

hmm
Looks like Hatton is in shape. I knew he would be. Him and Tszyu both have ballooned up between fights before. This is gon be a good fight. -
It should be great fight, i still cant decide who i think will win.
Hattons looked so good against a good level of opponent but its hard to tell how he'll do against the very best and Tszyu's just looks so strong and powerful at the moment.Comment

HATOTN WEIGHS 150 COME FIGHT NIGHT SO I VERY MUCH DOUBT IT.
i dont care that he is 144 now thats after a work out and dehydrated, he weighs round 150 come fight night especially with the 2 am start and a full 36 hours from weigh in to fight to rehydrate he maybe even more..Comment

Whatever Hatton weighs come fight time.....is the weight you'll hear the canvas getting slammed with....minus a few ounces of blood.
Hatton is about to step up & get destroyed.Comment

maybe jabbs maybe not.
i cant be arsed to rant on again about the reasons why but there are plenty, had an email from our aussie correspondent at the BBN and he is tipping against his man and for hatton.

I think there's a big difference in class, & certainly the caliber of opposition.Originally posted by JPWmaybe jabbs maybe not.

Hatton's only hope is that Tszyu is on the downside. There has been no evidence of that.
I just can't see a guy who wins on aggression & volume punching handling someone on Tszyu's level.....especially a guy who has to crank up his punches as much as hatton does.
I see Tzyu's heavy, laser-beam right constantly hitting Hatton, as Ricky leans to get leverage on his left.Comment
