IT's weird how guys with real high ko ratios, sometimes don't sem to hit that hard

Examples include Edwin Valero and Vitali Klitschko.

Now, don't get me wrong, they hit hard, but they aren't exactly Julian Jackson type punchers.

I just noticed, because my old man watched Valero for the first time last night, and he was expecting Demarco to go down every time Valero landed something, and I had to explain that he isn't that kind of puncher, to which my old man said "his ko ratio is deciving"

Well Demarco has a great chin. Most guys would have went down multiple times by a few of those punches.

DeMarco has a good chin, I doubt it's great, if it was he would have taken more risks.

Yeah he had a good chin, but also at the same time, when you picture 100% ko's you think one flush shot is all it will take, but that's not allways the case.

Its even weirder when guys with a 60% KO ratios go up in weight and start knocking everybody out

When you have 19 first round KOs that is true power it's just that when you start facing worldclass opponents with good chins it's not as easy to spark them early without selling yourself out.

Many of the fighters he faced had never been stopped before let alone early in the fight. Mosquera, Pitalua, Velazquez & DeMarco have great chins way above average if you look at their records. If Valero can learn to be less predictable I think he could surprise people with punches they don't see which are the ones that hurt the most.

If you have a good chin and know what Valero is going to do you will usually not get caught blind by one of his big shots which means there is time to brace yourself. Regardless, eventually the heavyhanded clubbing will still take its toll like it did with Mosquera and DeMarco. Pitalua, a very durable fighter, didn't see the right hook coming and pretty much lost the fight because of that.

It's why Pacquiao can knock down so many bigger opponents. He fires with speed from weird angles people don't anticipate. Margo was definitely stronger than Pac but couldn't knock Cotto down because all of his punches were slow and telegraphed. They still did damage but there was no element of surprise or shock to it.
