For the past 2 weeks, I have been stating that I did not see anything special or particular about Valero from the fights I've been able to download watch on youtube. I felt that Demarco was not going to be carelessly brawling with and his versatility and ability to box would help him become victorious against Valero. Also thought his chin would hold up and he wouldnt see the canvas.
Well, I was somewhat right. Demarco was TOO tentative against Valero who was popping him with some great combos from different angles. Demarco took some heavy shots and I think that made him really cautious and aware of the power Valero had behind those shots. What was impressive was seeing Valero throw this combos from different angles and then move away from any counters Demarco shot. I wasn't aware that he had this capability, but now I do.
From this fight, I realized and learned that Valero is not the one dimensional power brawler I saw from the tapes, but a fighter, though raw, who can mix it up with decent boxing ability, confusing with angles and being defensively aware. The comparison to Manny Pacquiao isn't so blasphemous as one would think.
As far as Demarco, of course I am dissapointed. But he is young and he will learn from this loss. Maybe a rematch in the future could be a possibility.
