    Hearns/Hagler/Leonard TOO BIG for Duran

The reason that Duran lost to Hagler, Hearns, and Leonard was because he was only 5 '5 and was a natural 136 pounder. Leonard was naturally 147, Hearns was naturally 154, and Hagler was naturally 160.

But despite his losses to these people he is ranked top 5 pound for pound of all time because people understand that he had to step up and fight these bigger guys, so even if he lost, people make the proper adjustments in their assessments of all time greatness. For instance, despite beating Duran, Hagler is only ranked in the top 30 p4p all time. Despite beating Duran, Hearns is barely top 30. Despite beating Duran, Leonard is barely top 15 while Duran, who he beat twice, is top 5, some say top 2 or 3.

I bring this up because there might be some great fighters out there who move up in weight successfully only to wind up losing once they bit off more than they could chew in their weight gains and consequently wind up losing at weights that are too high for them. For instance, if there is a natural 126 pounder who moves up all the way to 147 and loses, that would only be expected. Even if he gets KOd in the first round he would still be ranked very high in the all time p4p rankings based on his weight jump successes. Just like Duran. While the one that beats him won't get credit, and rightly so. Like Hagler, Hearns, Leonard after beating Duran.

    Just saying...

Hearns was a natural ww, his height and reach advantage was simply too much for Duran anyway. Duran beat Leonard in their first fight, he was still standing after his fight with Hagler so he should get props for that.

Duran was fighting out of his weight class. I'm sure no one will hold it against him. It's just that when you're an ATG people will try to hold it against you. That's just like what Pacuiao is doing right now. If Pacquiao was to lose to Dela Hoya, Hatton, and Cotto I wouldn't have hold it against him. What make Pacquiao great is he didn't just beat them, he either KO, or TKO them.

Are you saying that if in the impossible likelihood that Pacquiao lost to Floyd or Mosley that no one in the world would hold it against him? That he would still be an all time top 7 p4p great even if he loses to any top five welterweight because like Duran, he wasn't even a welterweight to begin with?

Win or lose, Pacquiao is locked as a ATG with Duran, Leonard, Armstong, Ali, Robinson. Floyd still have to worry about his.

Duran was already a legend when he left lightweight, everything else was just icing on the cake

You can also say that Pac was a legend when he left featherweight and Jr. lightweight. What he is doing now is just icing on the cake too. The good thing is he's still destroying his opponet in spectacular fashion.

Floyd was a legend when he left 130 and 135.

How many lightweights would have beaten Hearns, Hagler and Leonard? How many could have even been competitive with Leonard and Hagler as Duran was?

Duran had a reign comparable to Carlos Monzon or Marvin Hagler at 135 but unlike them he also moved up in weight and had success doing it.
