NEWSFLASH: Team Ruiz and Freddie Roach speak on the situation.
EXCLUSIVE: Team Ruiz speaks on Toney allegations!
By G. Leon and Scott Shaffer
Moments ago **********.com conducted an exclusive conference call interview with Norman Stone and Anthony Cardinale, the manager and attorney of former WBA heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz. "If this is true, shame on this guy and he's got whatever he's got coming. But we think he couldn't beat Johnny without this," said Cardinale. Read on for the full MUST READ exclusive interview.
Cardinale continued, "Now that it's out in the open, I'll go on record and say that Team Ruiz told Commissioner Stevens a month before the fight at the press conference, that we were very concerned about Toney's actions being a drug induced steroid rage. We told him we wanted to make sure the anti-doping procedures were followed correctly so there would be no issue.
"We knew something was off. After the fight and reviewing the tapes, we instituted conversations with the commission just to find out a week after the fight. That's the normal time it takes for the results to come in and we wanted to know the results. Now we haven't heard anything officially, but if this is true, it shows that this is the only way he could've beat Johnny."
GL: Were you aware of these accusations before Jawny announced his return?
Anthony Cardinale: "We knew about all of this, and we were concerned about this before the fight. This past weekend after Johnny spoke with his family he got on the phone with us and said that he's coming back. Once he told us that, I wanted to get the word out as soon as possible so he doesn't get dropped from the ratings. The next thing we know, word starts swirling around about this. Johnny made his decision and then we started getting calls about this just
like you did."
GL: Do you really think Toney could have been on something based on how out of shape he looked?
Norman Stone: "Oh absolutely. Without a doubt."
Anthony Cardinale: "And when we were looking at the tape of the fight we were saying to each other, if he's not on some performance enhancing drug that gave him an edge, then we're wrong. Johnny made his decision to come back before any of this began. If this is true, and until we know officially there's a capital I on that If. But if this is true it proves the only way he could beat Johnny is by cheating like this. But I'll tell you something else, if a website like ********** reported something like this about Johnny and it wasn't true, only two seconds would have passed before we shot some rockets up your ass. "
Norman Stone: "And if you remember Greg, at the press conference Jawny got up and told everyone that the kids should take a look at him so they know what not to be. He said, 'kids look at this guy, this is why you shouldn't do drugs."
"I mean he sits there and he sweats and then he jumps up and acts like a lunatic. The whole thing of it is, why does a guy like this who knocks everyone else go out and supposedly do something like this. If this is true you know me we're not going to let this get swept under the carpet. And not only that, Jawny will get his belt back."
Anthony Cardinale: "And again, this decision was made over the weekend. Everything just started flying around about this today, but if this is true we're going to make him the poster boy for steroid use.
EXCLUSIVE: Freddie Roach Speaks on James Toney’s Possible Use of Banned Substance
By Darren Nichols
“I have not spoken with James lately, but I did hear about ten minutes ago that there were reports on the internet that James may have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.” When asked if he knew of any history with Toney using such drugs Roach replied, “Not at all.” Laughing, Roach continued, “James doesn’t really look like a guy using steroids. I know steroids make you bigger and stronger, but I really question these allegations.” ********** asked Roach if he knew who would be the mostly likely source for giving Toney performing enhancing drugs, to which Roach said, “I have no idea. I know when he had his bicep tear during the Rydell Booker fight last September he was dealing with doctors and surgeons, but that is the only medical treatment that I know of since that fight.” Before Roach got back to what he does best, he reiterated to ********** by saying, “I’m thinking this is not true. It would be a shame if it were.”
Call me an *******, but I kind've hope it is true. Toney just talks so much **** and when he called Ruiz ****** after the fight, I lost all respect for him. Kicking a man when he is down is not something a true champion should do. If he tested positive he will be the one everyone calls a dumbass.
I think its a bit of a stretch to claim that doping is the ONLY reason and/or way that Toney beat him. That is something they will never know for sure
Of course it is and they will use his out of shape physique as a target as for why he was on 'roids and why he wasnt. This is going to get dirty and make the heavyweight division look ****ty.
I say **** on the reports, release the medical records if they were banned substances strip him and award Ruiz and lets forget about Toney, and act as if it never happened.

I know I will be happy, I only wanted Toney to win so he would fight Byrd.

Oh yes, more ugly press for the sport. I like your idea..too bad the press wont pass up the chance to drag it thru the mud, so forgetting about it isnt likely

That is what I hate about the media, screw talking to Team Ruiz and Roach...How about you contact Toney and contact the N.Y.S.A.C. about the tests and reveal something concrete instead of what a person thinks about it....We all think the same majority of the time when it comes to steroids, release some good info and expose Toney for what it is or how about expose the source?
Nothing irritates me more than saying "close sources have informed us" ok well who is the source? Chances are they are not credible.
I am rambling I know but damn just go talk to Toney (who will deny it) and then go get those medical records.
Although I wouldnt be surprised and would bet money on it if it does come out, Toney will say well it was prescribed by the doctor to heal my injury and nothing more. Tracy you should know that you read my final I posted....Which I got a B+ on by the way

IMO any press is good press. If a James Toney steroid scandal draws attention to the sport, so be it. It's not like it's a widespread ordeal like they have with baseball. I agree with you though, the die-hards and everyone associated with boxing should just act as if Toney never even existed and never even won to begin with, if it is true of course.
