Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin Arrives in America, Starts Training

The manager of heavyweight Alexander Povetkin, Wladimir Hryunov, has advised BoxingScene.com that the Russian boxer has already arrived to the United States to start his training camp. The IBF mandatoryt contender will have his next fight on March 13 in Berlin, though the opponent is still unknown. Alexander will spend the first stage of training in the New-York suburbs under his American trainer Teddy Atlas. In a month Povetkin will move to Germany to begin sparring-matches there. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that wlad isn't going to negotiate until he fights chambers...I'd like to see povetkin fight at least a B level opponent like dominick guinn or monte Barrett, although I down grade Barrett to C+ nowadays.

I'm keeping my eye on Povetkin. Let's see what magic Teddy Atlas can work with him

hes done good with him so far i think. in povetkins last fight he was down to 221 lbs which is the lowest hes been in awhile. people think atlas was a headcase but it was moreso the fighters he was working with, moorer had problems keeping his composure. grant had a bit of the same problem but was more of just being mentally weak, and briggs had stamina issues and also had a mental weakness problem.

I feel the same way, Teddy gets a bad rap because the fighters he had before were either lazy or not committed enough.

Hook him up with a disciplined hungry guy and I bet he can do a lot of good still.

More than the level, lets talk about size and style.

I only saw Povetkin beat 6.1 tall fat ricans fighters with slickness but no pop(Estrada,Nolan,Chambers was fat at this time,a not in shape byrd).

Pretty ****** when he's supposed to take the title of a 6.6 robotic bomber in shape.

Povetkin has backed out of fights with Wlad a couple of times: once he had a foot injury, another time Povetkin "wasn't ready." Wlad is probably tired of waiting on the guy for the last couple of years.

If anyone has fought good competition coming up it's povetkin.yes he backed out twice but the foot injury was legit & he changed trainers after estrada so time was needed & wlad agreed to the extention but then got hurt...winner of chambers/wlad will fight povetkin next in the summer.

I say, take a gamble, and fight a top 20 contender like Dimitrenko, Boswell, Pianeta, Oquendo, etc. What's going to prepare Povetkin for fighting Wlad? Fighting a top guy...
