good read, thanks for posting this.

It's an interesting position for roach to be in - on one hand he is so damn effective at what he does right now he can probably beat anyone, but on the other hand that style isn't always TV friendly. Like Roach said, he could be like Gamboa if he wanted to but why would he? He already beat Gamboa. After 375+ fights it's tough to change especially if you never lose.

From what it sounds like, from both roach & riggondeaux, he isn't going to. Maybe a few tweaks here and there but that's it, he'll never be an offensive minded guy. And theres nothing wrong with that, it just means he'll never be a big star.

I like his idea of cleaning out 122, picking up all the belts that were vacated before going up to 126. That's a solid plan.

And when roach said he'd have him fight Israel Vazquez right now if he could, I believe that. And out of all the cubans he's the one I believe could beat a guy like that with ease.

I seen this on their site.

Roach as a trainer should know that to be GREAT you dont have to fight like Pacman. Rigondeaux uses reflexes, defenne and counter punching like this other top guy I know.

Nothing wrong with it. If it aint broke dont fix it.

I pick Rigondeaux to beat Gamboa for what its worth.

I dont see anybody at 122 standing a chance.

right, I can see his point though when he said that if he faces another good boxer, he might have problems scoring points because he's too defensive. I think that's his one concern, or that's how I read it.

Good read, cheers. I cant see much of a problem. Rigondeaux is an extraordinary talent, they are gonna have to move him on quickly though. Its a shame that some of these cubans couldnt fight pro or move abroad, but its an age old problem. I often wonder how Savon would have done as a pro.

Hmm could be Roach's point. But when I watch him he just focused, fast and accurate as all hell.

Out of the 4 cubans. I think Rigondeaux is the best.

no question he is the most talented of the bunch. Roach said he will have him stay clear of fighting any boxers for the time being, so to me roach must know something, or is concerned about losing a close decision or something like that. He said he'd have him fight Vazquez right now if he could, but stay away from boxers. So I think roach wants to feel confident first that he knows how to fight going forward, if he has to.

you dont understand what roach is trying to say. He wants him to be more offensive so he can entertain and become an attraction. The reason he left cuba was to make a name and money.
