  • Disappointed With De La Hoya

    Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask everyone what they thought about De La Hoya as a boxer, regardless of whether you are a fan of his or not. I have always liked DLH, you know since he's mexican-american and so am I, plus he's pretty dang good looking , and most importantly I like him because he was a REALLY good boxer. Lately though, I have been disappointed with him as a boxer. His priorities haven't completely been with his own boxing career. Instead he's been busy with other things like being a promoter, TV producer, and a pretty face. I think that's the reason he's been losing his fights because his mind has been on other things. For example, he obviously lost the fight with Felix Sturm, there's no doubt that DLH lost that fight. During the time of that fight he was too busy trying to create his TV reality show, "the next great champ", instead of concentrating on his boxing career. I think that DLH has lost his love of boxing and now has a love of money, therefore he hasn't been succeeding because now all he can think about is how much he's gonna get paid for a fight, rather than whether he can win a fight. I hope the old DLH comes back, you know the TRUE Golden Boy, cuz lately he hasn't been fighting like the Golden Boy.

Oscar is ok but the top latino champ is Ruiz. He became the first HW latino champion, compare that to Oscar who's just another latino champ. And Ruiz would kick Oscar's ass anyday.

DLH is a fine boxer with a nice jab and decent power in his left hook. I would've like it if he had stayed in one particular weight class and tried to dominate, as opposed to collecting random belts in various weight class. At his natural weight class (welterweight), he wasn't too impressive, imo, losing to Mosley, barely beating the likes of Whitaker and Quartey in highly controversial bouts, and being lackluster against Trinidad. He didn't really make a stamp for himself at one particular division.

However, he has proven to be more than a boxer. He's a businessman that cares about other aspects of his life. I don't blame him one bit for that, but i do believe his boxing career has suffered a bit because of it.

I was amazed believe it or not even my sister and mom are dissappointed in him. And they've been long supporters of him. But after his Bernard performance and him not wanting to fight Margarito, they seemed to have jumped off the bandwagon.

Vargas really pissed off Oscar with that comment. And amazingly enough, Oscar has been getting boo'ed a lot lately by many Latinos.

Remember Tracylee is boxingscene's first lady, as far as De La Hoya I think he should fight one more time and then retire.
