I haven't read all of the replies yet (sorry!) but this is certainly an interesting supposition.
I'd be worried that he'd lose something in speed against his opponents (especially at this age) and he appears to only have an optimum of two rounds peak these days. But... it's interesting.
Actually, the 2nd-ranked Cruiser, Johnny Nelson, said he was jealous of Danny for having the opportunity as he knew Tyson was ready to be taken last year.
No he didn't he was always in the range between 215 and 219. 214 might have been the lowest he ever came in at, but it might be 215, his optimal fighting weight is 216. You would not think a small number pounds like that would make a big difference for a heavy but for Tyson it does.
Yeah, I don't recall him ever at the weights that guy listed. I bet he weighed 200 in the sixth grade!
He did. It has been documented that Mike Tyson weighed 190 lbs (muscular) when he was 13 years old. He really is a genetic freak. He was like a 5'10", 190 lbs seventh grader...all muscle, no fat.
As for the starter of this topic, you are a dumbass! There is no way Tyson could make cruiserweight. Also, before posting such an asinine topic, do the research. Someone posted that he has weighed less than 200 lbs for his early fights...bull****. His lightest weight was 212 lbs against Don Halpin in 1985. He also weighed in at 213 1/2 lbs against Jose Ribalta. He weighed anywhere from 215-220 lbs during his prime.
After prison he usually weighed between 219 and 22o lbs. He weighed 222 lbs for the first Holyfield fight. In the rematch he was a ripped 218 lbs and he fought well. In that fight he lost the first round badly, the second was pretty even, and he really dominated Holyfield in the 3rd. Had Tyson not snapped about Holyfield incessent headbutting he might have won that fight.
Also, he was most definately NOT fat against Etienne even though he weighed 225 lbs. He was totally ripped, and had very well-defined abs.
Some of you guys need to actually have an idea of what you are talking about before posting.
At his age, I don't think he could get down to 200 lbs...he looks to be at least 250 or 260 from the pics I've seen of him lately, maybe more. I read that in his last fight against MkBride, he trained really hard, and still came in at over 230 lbs. Tyson said Fenech worked him hard in the gym, and he was doing a lot of things he hadn't done in a long time, like running. I'd say it would be really draining for him, even if he could do it. A younger Tyson at cruiserweight though...man, he'd kill all those guys.
I think he weighed in at a pathetic 233, his optimal weight is 216. Every bout Tyson has ever been in, and weighed in at over 220 he looses.
Wrong! In his prime Tysons best weight was about 216-218, but today it would be 225 and he couldnt make cruiser, even in his prime it would be hard for him. But he had manny fight in which he was over 220 and won them.
I still think that he could make it to 200 pretty easily. And he has won fights above the 220 mark. Like when he fought Clifford Ettiene he was pretty fat for that.
Fat?? He was ripped!!
And i have never seen a fat Tyson, only a Tyson who did to much weight lifting. The worse Tyson looked physically was against McBride, but he still was far from fat.
