Titles mean much less these days than they did in the past. IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC, IBO......there are weak title holders in every division. In the past if you wanted a belt chances are you had to beat the best or close to the best guy in that class. Also the best guy held the WBC belt.....if u didn't have that belt you may aswell not have bothered, hence it is still considered the most prestigious belt even today.


And lets be clear.....i have no problem with catchweights. what i do have a problem with is sanctioning bodies allowing belts from a particular weight class to be on the line when the fight is not even at hat weight class. if Pac wanted the belt from Cotto, it should have been a welter fight. So in reality he is 7 time on a technicality because Arum had a cry to the sanctioning body. Really he is a 6 time champ in 6 divisions. Irrelevant anyway as he could take a strap at 147 if he wanted.

but on a serious note, i also don't understand why some people would say that this is just to build hype and publicity to the fight. this is already a big fight, boxing fans will watch it.. it will have a big chance to outdo pacquio-clottey PPV numbers. there is nothing more into it that needs this "type" of hyping.
