EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: TIMOTHY BRADLEY By G. Leon
GL: I spoke with Gary recently, and he made it clear that feels you're the most feared man in boxing since you're the top junior welterweight and you don't have your next fight lined up yet because nobody wants to fight you. Your thoughts?
"It's very frustrating. These are the things that hurt boxing, especially when you got a guy like me that's ready to fight anybody that is worthy. These guys are running scared and the promoters are hiding their fighters and keeping them away from me. I don't know what it is, I worked so hard to get to the number one position and thought everybody would be calling to get their shot at the best, They're trying to close me out right now. I don't know if it's me, I don't know what it is, but they're trying to close me out of the equation completely. "It's all good, because somebody will wind up without a dance partner and then we'll be able to get it on. All these cowards man, they're trying to make this deal and that deal, but come to fight me, take a real fight against a real champion, me."
GL: Based on the way things are looking do you think you'll be able to get the other title holders into the ring?
Timothy Bradley: "I'm sure I will, but right now it's just a waiting game for me. We've dialed out to every top 40 pounder in the world. From Paul Malignaggi, to Ricky Hatton, to Pacquaio, to Floyd, to Khan, Maidana, Urango. Who else is out there?"
GL: Do you think you'd be having such a hard time finding a fight if you didn't dominate against Lamont Peterson in your last fight?
TB: "I'm not sure, but that fight probably has everybody running scared because it was fought at a fast pace and if you fight me, you're going to have to be ready for a twelve hard rounds. I'm going to be in your face or do what I have to do to win the fight. I know it's a recession and nobody wants to take that 50-50 chance in tough fights, but I see there's nobody in the division like that. The only guy in the division who would face me again is Nate Campbell.
GL: I'm sure Lamont would fight you again, but the only guys who would fight you again are the guys you've already fought, and that's the problem.TB: "Exactly. And that's a big problem. All you wannabe fighters talking loud, come see me. I'm at the top of the division, I'm the #1 guy at 140 and if you want to see me, just dial my number. Right now I got a date with no dance partner. I know I'll be back on Showtime in May, the question is against who."
GL: Closing thoughts?
TB: "Malignaggi step up man. If you don't have a fight, let's do it. What are you waiting for, I'm 5'6 and 140, let's do something. I'm here to fight the best in the world so look for me. I'm expecting to have a big year in 2010."a
