Comments Thread For: Not Done Yet: Arce Dominates Angkota For Vacant Title

By Jake Donovan - Every time we write him off, Jorge Arce finds a way to stick around just a little bit longer.

The wildly popular Mexican slugger delivered what was easily his best performance in years and added another alphabet title to his collection in the process, thanks to a dominating – albeit cut-short – unanimous technical decision over Angky Angkota in their vacant super flyweight title fight.

The bout served as the main event of a televised doubleheader in the second entry of “Top Rank Live” on Fox Sports Network, which aired live from Plaza de Toros Arroyo in Mexico City, Mexico.

Anytime Arce steps through the ropes, blood is guaranteed to play a supporting role in his events. The plasma began to flow as early as the end of the opening round. Angkota repeatedly scored with his right uppercut and looping left hand, drawing blood from Arce’s nose somewhere along the way.

It was a different story in the second round. Arce pinned the Indonesian southpaw in the corner early in the frame and went to town, much to the delight of the partisan crowd on hand. Angkota had his moments, countering with right uppercuts on the inside, but unable to create any sort of space, save for a brief time out when Arce was warned for heabutting. “Now that I said I wanted to retire, I don’t want to do it anymore. This feeling is great.”
Oh no..he really thinks high of his performance tonight against a B class fighter?
He will have a real wake up call against anyone else, in case he chose to step up in class for his next fight...this was bad..he think so highly of himself that he is re-thinking his retirement plans after this year..oh well..Holyfield is still fighting..why would we be surprised these days ?

I hope he retires. He was getting caught and stunned with a high regularity by this guy. Also he was allowed to get away with a lot of low shots that would be called in a higher caliber fight. I also thought the stoppage for the cut was bogus. Reality is he should retire now as a champ and call it a day.

Bogus... on the part of whom? Angkota all but tapped out, and seemed relieved when the fight was over.

All I saw was Angkota laying on the ropes getting his ass beat for rounds at a time.
Occasionally, he would get in some uppercuts but he was getting worked from pillar to post, and just decided to slug it out from the post while using the ropes and not moving while eating all kinds of shots.

Yep, exactly what I saw. I don't disagree with David_TheMan that Arce should consider retiring on the strength of a win rather than getting beaten into retirement, but I didn't see the same fight he did, nor did Arce seem to be in any major trouble at any point in the fight. If Angkota did catch him, it was never to the point where anything dramatic was goung to come of it.
