The wildly popular Mexican slugger delivered what was easily his best performance in years and added another alphabet title to his collection in the process, thanks to a dominating – albeit cut-short – unanimous technical decision over Angky Angkota in their vacant super flyweight title fight.
The bout served as the main event of a televised doubleheader in the second entry of “Top Rank Live” on Fox Sports Network, which aired live from Plaza de Toros Arroyo in Mexico City, Mexico.
Anytime Arce steps through the ropes, blood is guaranteed to play a supporting role in his events. The plasma began to flow as early as the end of the opening round. Angkota repeatedly scored with his right uppercut and looping left hand, drawing blood from Arce’s nose somewhere along the way.
It was a different story in the second round. Arce pinned the Indonesian southpaw in the corner early in the frame and went to town, much to the delight of the partisan crowd on hand. Angkota had his moments, countering with right uppercuts on the inside, but unable to create any sort of space, save for a brief time out when Arce was warned for heabutting.
