EL TERRIBLE: I AM READY TO BE World CHAMPION AGAIN

    By Hesiquio Balderas
    31 Jan 2010

After months of speculation about whether Erik Morales would ever fight again, and what would be the proper weight for him, "El Terrible" from Tijuana confirm the news and made it official.

Erik will return in the hot welterweight division where the formidable Manny Pacquiao is the WBO welterweight champion, Shane Mosley is the WBA champion, and Floyd Mayweather jr is also a star.

"I know what I want to accomplish in boxing and I want to fight, it's not for the money because I am well financially, it's because I really want to do it, I want to win that fourth title in a different division and be the first Mexican to do it. Boxing is my life and i feel very happy," Morales told the Mexican newspaper Record.

"I have been working hard. The truth is that it is difficult to get back in shape after a long lay off, but I needed that rest because after fighting for so many years with the best fighters in the world I was tired, but know I am ready to be world champion again, I want to comeback and I will do it with my promotional company Box Latino. Like I said I've been in the gym for many months now and when I present myself to the media you will see that I am in great shape."

Erik also mentioned that he may fight for a regional or international title against former champion José Alfaro the fight may take place at 142 pounds.

EM is one of my fav fighters but i think he is better off at 140 than 147 if he is serious about being a champ again. i think no boxer wants to retire losing his last 4 fights. I wish he had retired after the 2nd pac fight which cleary demonstrated he didnt have the legs anymore. EM had won 4 of the first 5 rds against pac but his legs gave out as pac worked the body with skifull precision. When he lost to Zahir Raheem it was evident his days were numbered.

EM might be able to come back well if he resorts more to boxing instead of his infamous violent brawl style that gave us great fights.

when I first heard the news, I felt he should just stay retired, but giving him a big chance to beat Alfaro, since Erik has a lot of time to shed those fats.. But after I saw how fat he is still w/ two months left. He is indeed going to have a heck of a fight ahead of him... wish Erik the best.
