if the fight of both lopez and gamboa against mtagwa is any indication, gamboa has the edge against lopez. i believe so watching their fight.

gamboa is still raw with only 17 fights but he box well and he's faster than lopez. if both fighters were to throw a punch at each other at one time, gamboa's punch will land first ahead of lopez.

if the fight happens, i will bet all my points for gamboa.

If Lopez fought Mtagwa at 126 while Mtagwa weighed 122, maybe
just maybe we could compare the two performances...

I disagree. Gamboa-Lopez should fight in 2-3 years. Lopez should take care of either Caballero, Vasquez or John. Gamboa can fight John, Caballero or other journeymen.

Will Lopez and Gamboa fight in 2010? Probably not. Should they? I wish they would.

Whatever is the right approach to a Yuri Gamboa-Juanma Lopez showdown, I don't know. But I do know that Bob Arum's tactic is already working. I include myself among the many boxing fans I know are already getting antsy for this match-up to happen. I'm growing impatient, especially with all the talk on these boards. The only thing that'll keep me happy in the meantime is if these men fight the top names in their division.

lopez will not fight gamboa,period...he knows gamboa will beat him,,,he will say what he said about caballero, that caballero needs to do more..like what?.he's a unified champ, beat de leon like juamaricon did,he's defended his titles several times,,what more can you ask in a challenger?.he uses excuses and those are the ones he will use against gamboa, when everybody know who gamboa is,he's a champ and he stole the show saturday night,,,,jaunmaricon=pu$$y

I co-sign this article to the fullest. Arum is like a cancer on boxing fan's nuts when it comes to giving fans what they want. He makes these wack ass match ups like Cotto-Foreman and Pavlik-Lockett and it bombs in the ratings and proves jack. Arum says he's gonna match these guys tough until they fight each other, but I don't believe that's true myself. What if they end up losing? And not only that, what if one of them can't make the weight anymore? They both looked good on an HBO card so make the fight happen and the money will follow if the fight is competitive and exciting.

If this is the alternative, then I'm all for it. I have no problem with fighters cleaning out a division.

My problem is that I don't believe Arum when he says these are the guys that he plans to have JuanMa and Gamboa facing. In fact, I guarantee that if Cotto-Foreman becomes a PPV, then JuanMa faces someone no better than one of Top Rank's featherweights - Mario Santiago, perhaps.

Point being, I don't anticipate the guys Arum plans to match against JuanMa and Gamboa being any of the names mentioned, which is why I'd rather they just cut to the chase and make this fight.

What's funny is, he talks about staging it at the Meadowlands when the absolute perfect venue for the fight would be the one he's instead reserving for Cotto-Yuri Foreman. And I'm sorry, but I don't know a soul in the world who wouldn't rather see JuanMa-Gamboa that night, nor would they complain that the fight came too soon.

Honestly, the way I read it is that he wants to milk the clock in order to build a fan base for Gamboa. Fans will naturally gravitate to JuanMa, but so far Gamboa's still stuck on cult favorite status. The marinating period has nothing to do with any intention of cleaning out the divisions - that's just Arum's new Macau.
