I'm not sure Lopez is afraid of Gamboa, or anyone else in his division. Juanma's been handled like a potential golden goose for so long that he doesn't see clearly anymore (if he ever did). I think the kid believes his own hype. He sees himself as being a future boxing superstar. From his comments, it would seem he might even think he's already there. Lopez thinks he can speak better than he can, so he tried to be slick and said some silly things.

We'll see Yuri Gamboa and Juanma Lopez fight when Bob Arum thinks he's stirred the sauce long enough. Arum is running the show. At least Gamboa had the sense to say that he'll fight whomever his promoter wants him to fight. Nobody wants to hear that, but that's the way it is. Juanma got into trouble with his comments because everyone knew they were being BSed. It's just insulting.
