At this stage in his career, Juanma fights whomever Bob Arum tells him to fight. The same goes for Yuri. But while Gamboa basically said that in his Mtagwa post-fight interview, Lopez tried to say something a little different. It was a bad idea, because it was such blatant nonsense that it turned many of his fans off.
Juanma's been groomed to be a potential superstar for a while now. The comments he made tell me that he believes his own hype. I don't think he's afraid of fighting anyone in his division. I do think that he's much more concerned about his career than what the fans think/want of him. Lopez aspires to be another Oscar or Floyd, but he's nowhere near that level. It's embarrassing to see him act like he thinks he is.
Free advice, Juanma: Next time, just say, "I'll fight all comers. Gamboa? Caballero? Bring them on. But, ultimately, it's up to my promoter." It's the truth, anyway.
