Juan Manuel Lopez doesn't care about the words of Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa, who on Saturday declared to the four winds to be the best boxer in the featherweight division.
Also, Lopez, who on Saturday won the title of the 126-pound World Boxing Organization (WBO) after knocking out Steven Luevano, anticipated that their paths will cross eventually and then we will know who is the best, not by words, but in the ring.
"Gamboa has quick hands, but he relies too much on it, he get's over confident and his defense is very open," Lopez said earlier today to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of one who looks like a sure contender in the not too distant future.
" Gamboa've been knocked down four times in his career. I'm sure when we finally meet, we'll have the perfect plan (to beat him). So he can say what he wants, we'll have to see in the ring, "he said.
It was anticipated that Lopez and Gamboa could measure forces in June, however, no immediate plans to make them look face to face.
"Right now, I want to look for names that are attractive to the public and for the moment, Gamboa is not one," said Lopez.
In fact, the lefty predicted that are destined to fight for next year.
"Neither Celestino Caballero (double champion at 122 pounds) and Gamboa are options for now because they have yet to be tested. What is being discussed is that if Gamboa and I managed to master the 126 pounds, then we would face in June 2011 on the night before the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York, "he confirmed.
According to Lopez, Gamboa still needs to prove its value before looking for a fight to unify the belts.
"I will not deny that he is an intelligent fighter and he has confidence in his abilities, but needs a rival to put you in trouble. He may be a double Olympic champion and made a number of fights at amateur level, but in a matter of professional level experience, I'll take him out, "he said.
Lopez said that contrary to Gamboa, has been in trouble and that he did mature as a fighter.
"I had to fight with a cut and bruised, but I learned how to fight back. That is something that Gamboa has "he said.
Although dominated Luevano Lopez, the Puerto Rican can not escape the shadow of Gamboa by the manner in which this liquid Mtagwa Rogers, who gave him serious problems Juanma last October.
"It did not surprised me how Gamboa dominated Mtagwa. I knew his speed and strength would be too much for him. I'm not making excuses, but the reality is that I did not had a good night against Mtagwa "he said.
