Manny Pacquiao should not take Clottey lightly, says Cotto

    25 January, 2010
MANILA: Manny Pacquiao should not take Clottey lightly, says Cotto. Manny Pacquiao is preparing for the big fight. But many in the industry are warning him to be careful. His American trainer has also asked him to be ready for untoward situation in the ring.

However, another boxer Miguel Cotto has given some advice to him. He told pound-for-pound king Manny to be careful while fighting with Ghanaian Joshua Clottey on March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“Manny will have to be very strict because Clottey has a lot of strength and has good defense,” Cotto told a local TV.

Cotto knows a lot about both the fighters because he had fought them.

Manny had trounced Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena fight in Las Vegas. He won in the 12th round on technical knockout. It was a difficult fight and Manny was lucky to win him. Since then Manny has been crowned welterweight title by World Boxing Organization (WBO).

Interestingly, before this fight he had also fought Clottey. But in this thriller, Cotto managed to edge Clottey. But despite the defeat he holds Clottey in high regards. He has accepted the fact that Clottey is a tough fighter.

“It will be a tough fight. I believe the guy who is the best prepared and in the best shape will win the fight,” Cotto said. Keeping all this in mind Manny has already started his training.

Last time Cotto said something of this sort, Margarito ended up losing to Mosley. I remember when Cotto said "Margarito shouldn't take Mosley lightly"

Good advice from Cotto, he knows Clottey is a tough opponent and has a good chance of winning the fight.

According to the Clottey info on this very informative Pacquiao/Clottey site, Pacquiao would be very ****** to take Clottey lightly. And it looks like he is taking it very lightly as this thread from a poker website indicates: Pacquiao wins $35,000 pot playing $100-$200 no limit holdem.

Cotto is a stud. If he fought Pac @ his regular weight w/random EPO testing throughout for both fighters, he would have kicked his little ass. Or then again maybe not because Pac would have ducked him under those circumstances.

              True story.
