To much Height for a Heavyweight

Do you think that if you are to tall it can be a disadvantage? Lennox Lewis once said that he thought about 6 foot five inches was as tall as you wanted to be. He said that 6 foot 7 was to tall really and that it could be a disadvantage. I think he said this leading up to his fight with Michael Grant. What do you think on this matter? Later brother brologs.

Lot of variables figure into that.

Assuming you are a tall heavy, say 6'6

1.Is your opponent drastically shorter? And can this shorter opponent bob and weave like Tyson used to be able to or is he a target like Tua was for Lewis

      2. How good is your jab? That is the tall heavy's best friend

3.Dont expect Chavez like precision with bodywork. Big guys can be effective bodypunchers but usually dont stop bouts like Chavez or even Roy Jones Junior could.

im just spouting thoughts fellas so repute or disrepute at will

height is what you make of it....

Michael Grant was tall but had no D and was a huge target....Lennox leaned back and counter-punched effectively, using his height to his advantage....

a young Tyson was short but bobbed & weaved into the pocket and scored with hooks and uppercuts....David Tua gets picked apart by anyone with a jab

it ain't what you got, it's in the way that you use it (Eric Clapton's tha man!)

i agree... tall fighters usually have long arms -- good for jabs and straights. the only disadvantage i see is the opening of the midsection. but the thing is, working with your strength while limiting the exposure of your weaknesses will help. a tall fighter who can develop a great uppercut will make shorter fighters pay when they try to enter and go for the body.

Its all dependant on the opponent and your fighting style but a good example is Golota not being able to find the target against Tyson making him not want to fight anymore.

in my opinion, tall fighters have their advantage. If their opponent is really short, then it's hard for them to get hit upstairs. All they gotta do is anticipate body shots and counter them. That's why I'm one of the people here that says Toney won't beat Vitali.
