by David P. Greisman - A hero is lifted by adulation, burdened with expectations.

The reward? Pride. The danger? That the pride comes before the fall. It goes both ways. The more eyes there are watching, the more there are to see the hero succeed. The more eyes there are watching, the more there are to see the hero fail.

The United States doesn’t produce national heroes anymore. Our interests are too varied; there are too many channels, too many distractions, too many niches. We have fascinations with celebrities, but those we ordain as “celebrities” can be Jon and Kate, balloon boys or White House party crashers. We have admiration for accomplishments, but widespread recognition is impeded by geography. The nation is a collection of towns, counties, states and regions, each with their own identity. Good article. I think Lennox might be out for your blood now, Mr. David. Nice pot shot. I didn't notice that on the new website.

So Wlad is supposedly dating Hayden Panettiere? That is a bit of a funny sight.

Rich Loc is going to be pissed.

                Julian,

I think the cause and effect is a lot simpler when it comes to tampered hand wraps (and the punishment they dish out), as opposed to performance enhancing drugs (and the additional punishment a fighter dishes out).

One need only look at the Luis Resto-Billy Collins fight to see the effect of tampering on another fighter's face.

Fernando Vargas used steroids and lost. James Toney used steroids and won, but he didn't do to John Ruiz what Luis Resto did to Billy Collins.

Yes, performance enhancing drugs are a bad thing. These guys are already in a dangerous sport. Getting an unfair advantage makes things even more dangerous.

But in this case, it is the tangible consequences that make me call for a Margarito ban but not a Mosley ban.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the comment.
