Funny how Lopez stops a world champ to win a title in his second weight class. On the same night Gamboa looks very good knocking out a respectable journeyman, on his way to his first title shot. And Gamboa is getting all the press.Comment

prime Calderon makes him look like a fool, right now a aging Calde UDs him close P4P wise
Calderon right now, beats him, P4P obviously, Prime Calderon wins like 10-2 in rounds.Comment

Wait a minute, aren't we jumping on the bandwagon a little early? Maybe Gamboa is the hottest prospect, that I will agree!
But his best opponent to date was Rogers Mtagwa? And Mtagwa is a known slow starter! If you remember the first few rounds against JuanMa he was getting a beating too.
Mtagwa is a super bantamweight that came in with 12 losses! Perhaps we should give Gamboa some time before we start posts with "the best ever" stuff!Comment

Is anybody else with me on seeing Gamboa and Lopez clean up the division and then maybe in another year or next summer 2011 have a mega fight? I wanna see it. But not right now.Comment

I know you gotta make the money while the gettins good. But potentially if they cleared out the division. And then fought it'd be huge. I know it's not definite they can win every fight but it'd be worht the wait.Comment

I think for skill-4-skill there is at the moment, none like him. What I like about him is that he's a closer. Great fighters know how to finish and he has that killer instinct. I'd like to see him pushed a bit more the next round.
I think the Juanma v Mtagwa fight was a mere abberation, a club fighter just swinging for the fences. I do think however that if Juanma and Gamboa do fight, that Gamboa will finish Juanma off. I noticed in the Luevano fight that Juanma just takes too many hits AND he swells up like no other. I didn't see much pop from Luevano's punches, yet in the post fight, Juanma looked like he went 12 rounds. That worries me
Good post. Can't really argue except to say that Luevano didn't look like any sort of termater can to me. Especially early on. He's lanky. He had pretty good defense and a good, quick jab that he brought back up to his face quick. Maybe Gamboa blows out Luevano early, maybe not, but I get the feeling that it would behoove an upper tier fighter to start cautious and take Yuri deep and see what happens.
I also noticed (along w/the 2 other guys I was watchin' the fight with) that Juanma did seem to swell from not too much punishment. It is worrisome if you're (like me) lookin' for some newer guys early in their career to root for...Comment

get off his nuts, yes he is good but, he just beat Rogers Mtagwa......i think its pretty clear... he has the speed, power, precision, and hes only 17 fights in.... he looks like hes just on another level when he fights.... This roger mtagwa guy gives juanma all he can handle, but get destroyed in two rounds in his next fight against gamboa.. it was like Mtagwa v. juanma was a b+ vs. B+, and gamboa vs. mtagwa looked like an A+ vs a sparring partner....Comment
