Amir Khan delivers knockout blow to Ricky Hatton by poaching the Hitman's comeback opponent

Amir Khan is set to deliver a knockout blow to Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight by facing Juan Manuel Marquez before his close friend.

Hatton has held talks about facing Marquez when he returns this summer, but WBA light-welterweight champ Khan has been offered a clash against the Mexican instead.

The WBA have ordered Khan to face Marcos Maidana, but trainer Freddie Roach said: ‘Maidana is not well known enough and there isn’t enough money in that fight.’

Khan could be stripped of his treasured world title if he fights anyone but Maidana. Roach added: ‘Amir is very proud of his title and doesn’t want to give it up. Maybe we could put Maidana on this undercard and maybe the winners could fight each other.’

Khan said: ‘Freddie said before Floyd Mayweather Jnr fought Marquez, "If you ever fight Marquez, you will take him apart".’

Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi are other opponents on the short list for Khan’s Stateside debut.

are you INSANE i luv Marquez dnt get me wrong but he is nearing shotsville he looked fat and slow against Floyd. Khan is young fast dynamic and has Freddie Roach


Remember Marquez was 142 in the weigh in against Mayweather he'd only need to lose 2 pounds he wnt be any faster

To be fair JMM could come in at 135.1 if he wanted, then he'd be fighting pretty much as a lightweight.

how can marquez be shot. he went up 2 weight divisions to face 1 of the top 2 boxers in the world today and went the distance. Marquez is still considered one of the top ten pfp boxers today where as khan is still in the 50-60 range. At this time their ideal fightings weights are a mere 3-4 pound difference. Marquez if still pfp should be able to overcome that small weight disadvantage and should still be the heavy favourite over khan.

Khan is not Mayweather and is still vunerable at this particular time in his career. **** everyone on here last year was saying marquez would destroy khan in a round, how things change fast in just over 1 fight for Marquez and a couple for Khan.
