Amir Khan delivers knockout blow to Ricky Hatton by poaching the Hitman's comeback opponent

Amir Khan is set to deliver a knockout blow to Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight by facing Juan Manuel Marquez before his close friend.

Hatton has held talks about facing Marquez when he returns this summer, but WBA light-welterweight champ Khan has been offered a clash against the Mexican instead.

The WBA have ordered Khan to face Marcos Maidana, but trainer Freddie Roach said: ‘Maidana is not well known enough and there isn’t enough money in that fight.’

Khan could be stripped of his treasured world title if he fights anyone but Maidana. Roach added: ‘Amir is very proud of his title and doesn’t want to give it up. Maybe we could put Maidana on this undercard and maybe the winners could fight each other.’

Khan said: ‘Freddie said before Floyd Mayweather Jnr fought Marquez, "If you ever fight Marquez, you will take him apart".’

Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi are other opponents on the short list for Khan’s Stateside debut.

Id like to see Khan take on Malignaggi next. I wouldnt recoment that Malignaggi fought at 147lbs agianst Berto, he would get destroyed. But I think that Khan has to fight either Malignaggi or Maidana in his USA debut. Id say that Maidana is the more dangerous opponent for Khan because of his speed and punching power. Paulie doesnt rely on power, but speed and pure boxing skills.
